Ebenezer comes from a Hebrew place name meaning ”Stone of Help.”

History:
Ebenezer was not actually a personal name, but a name of a stone in the Bible. However, this did not matter to 17th century Puritans in search of Biblical names. Ebenezer was fairly common until the mid-19th century when popular author Charles Dickens gave it to his skinflint character Ebenezer Scrooge.
