Elgiva is the Latinized form of two Old English names:
1. Aethelgifu, meaning “Noble Gift” from “aethel” (noble) and “gifu” (gift).

2. Aelgifu, meaning “Elf Gift” from “aelf” (elf) and “gifu” (gift).

History:
Both the Old English names of Aethelgifu and Aelgifu were found until the 13th century (often Latinized as Elveva, or Frenchified as Alieve).

Elgiva was revived in 19th century, but it did not catch on.

Pronunciation: ell-giv-ah.
