Katie is a diminutive form of Katherine (or Kathleen, or Kathryn), a blend of the (possibly) Coptic name Aikaterina and the Greek word “katharos” (pure). Possibly connected with the Greek word “aikia” (torture) or the goddess of the underworld named Hecate.
