Lesley is a form of Leslie, a Scottish surname from Lesslyn, from Lescelin, meaning “Garden of Holly,” from “leas cuilinn.”

History:
Traditionally, Lesley was considered the feminine form of Leslie (usually a masculine name). Early one, however, the spellings became indistinguishable in the United States, where Leslie is common as a feminine name. In Britain, however, the spelling distinction still applies.
