Lucas is the Latin (and English surname) form of Luke, the Middle English form of Loukas, a Late Greek name which meant “From Lucania.”

History:
Lucas was the Latin spelling of Luke used in medieval documents. Lucas also developed as a surname for Luke at about this time (Son of Luke). The current name Lucas is partially a transference for that surname, and partially a revival of the Latinate form.
