Minna is a Germanic name either meaning “Love” from “minna” or “Small” from “min.”

History:
Minna began in Germanic countries as an affectionate nickname (like “Darling” or “Honey”). It was first used in England (in any great numbers) in the 19th century. This may have been due to Sir Walter Scott’s novel “The Pirate” (a heroine was named Minna Troil) and perhaps from the German influence brought by the marriage between Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
