2001 Most Improved Player Results

The HSFL 2001 Most Improved Player Award winner was announced by the league office Monday morning.  The winner was determined by a ballot that was e-mailed to more than a dozen people associated with the HSFL this season.

4th Place--
Ryan Geib (13 pts.).  Geib actually did improve tremendously this season, but received little to no respect from the voters in this award.  He finished 1st in the HSFL website fan poll, beating out Brad Harber by one vote.  Many believe that Geib's constant complaining and lack of offensive contributions my have cost him a great deal of respect in this race.

3rd Place--
John Allendorf (25 pts.)  Allendorf had a tremendous rookie campaign, and may very well be the rookie of the year.  The belief behind his lack of support is that he was good this whole season.  He did not really improve a great deal because he was already a great player when he started.

2nd Place--
Kyle Gonzales (26 pts.)  Gonzales was probably just as deserving of this award as anyone.  He started off a little slow, but once he got used to playing, he began to show signs of his tremendouse potential.  Gonzales actually had the best statistical season of all four players, and will challenge Allendorf for the Rookie of the Year Award.

1st Place--
Brad Harber (27 pts.)  Harber won the Most Improved Player Award by only one point over Gonzales.  Harber has had a history of not being a contributor throughout his career, and he finally put that to rest this season.  Harber played very well this year on the defensive line pressuring the quarterback, and may have finally found his place in the HSFL.

As you can see, this was a very close race, mostly because of the lack of respect given to Geib.  Only two points separated the winner and the third place player.  One ballot was not returned and that may have made the difference in the outcome of this race.  Congratulations to Harber on winning this award.

The 2001 Comeback Player of the Year Award will be announced next week, so stay tuned.  You can voice your opinion on that award on the fan poll on the front page of this site.
