On Sunday, February 3rd, the HSFL played its first annual Snow Bowl.  The game is an exhibition between two teams of HSFL players, one comprised of veterans and one comprised of young talent.  The game gets its name because it is played in the snow.

The game saw several interesting notes as far as players were concerned.
Josh Neace, who had declared his retirement following the 2001 season, made his return in the exhibition, and rumors are circulating that he is contemplating calling off his retirement plans for 2002.  The game also included 2001 Rookie of the Year John Allendorf, and MVP Bob Glover, along with debuting players Mike Cawley and Kyle Meanovich.

The Young Stars had at least one advantage to start the game with an extra man on the field at all times.  The first half started off with a surprising turn of events, including a Josh Neace fumble, and an interception by
Ryan Geib that allowed the youngsters to jump out to an early 2-1 lead.  The Veterans rebounded, using their passing attack to take a 5-3 lead at the half.

The Vets continued the offensive onslaught in the second half and picked it up on defense as well.  The Young Stars never got their offense on track in the second half, as they were only able to score 3 touchdowns.  Geib hurt his knee and was forced to miss a few plays, which put The Vets back at even strength with the Young Stars.  The Veterans were able to capitalize on a few turnovers and won the game by a final score of 10-6.

Bob Glover, who played through a strained shoulder, continued to play like he had something to prove after winning the 2001 Most Valuable Player Award.  He threw for 6 touchdowns, ran for two more, and had an interception while leading The Veterans to victory.  Josh Neace, who has reportedly been playing in a flag-football league this off-season, looked to be in excellent shape in his HSFL return.  Neace, who quarterbacked a few series due to a pulled groin, scored two touchdowns and played spectacular defense in his return.
Matt Lams, arguably the most dominant player in the HSFL, scored a game high 6 touchdowns to help lead The Veterans to the win.

2001 HSFL Rookie of the Year John Allendorf, who was expected to lead The Young Stars in the game, had a good showing in the exhibition, scoring 3 touchdowns.  Kyle Meanovich, who is expected to be Hobart High School's starting quarterback next season, had an impressive HSFL debut.  He threw for 4 touchdowns, and caught two more to help lead the Young Stars.  Like Meanovich, Mike Cawley was also making his HSFL debut.  Cawley, who was highly touted by Ryan Geib, did not register a touchdown in his debut.  He did show some impressive qualities, most notably his speed and reports have it that the HSFL is seriously considering signing Cawley.  In perhaps the most surprising story of the game, Ryan Geib made his HSFL return despite being released last month.  The HSFL is reportedly considering giving Geib one last chance in the company, and this game was said to be a sort of audition to see if Geib is even deserving of a new contract.  Geib, realizing that this may be his last chance, made the most of his opportunity by catching a touchdown and intercepting a pass.  Geib, also played roughly a third of the game at quarterback for The Youngstars, and threw for 2 touchdowns.  Geib has reportedly greatly increased his chances of getting a new contract with his performance in this game.
