Classroom Participation

Mrs. Dambach’s second grade class studied about Japan.  Here are some of the activities we did in our classroom.

Some of the children rub the cat’s belly when they want good luck.

It’s fun learning some Japanese.  Many students say some Japanese words every day.

Before our tea ceremony we left our shoes outside the room.

We drank bitter green tea during our tea ceremony.

We made and ate miso soup and rice.  It was an experience trying to use hashi (chopsticks).

We showed off our calligraphy.

Some of us wore kimonos.

It’s great to listen to stories from Mrs. Dambach’s Japanese book collection and to look through her culture souvenir box.

We made some origami projects.

We played games.  We spun tops and juggled bean bags.  Everyone tried to hit blocks under the daruma head with the hammer when we played Daruma- otashi.  We played a game similar to Pin the Tail on the Donkey called Fukuwarai.  You get blindfolded.  You try to put the facial parts on the face.
