Fulbright
Memorial Fund Teacher Program
This program is
sponsored by the Government of Japan and was launched to commemorate the
fiftieth anniversary of the U.S. Government Fulbright program. For me it was a social and cultural journey
of discovery! This intercultural
opportunity allowed me to encounter a kind of intimacy that is priceless, an
experience that will enrich me for the rest of my life. It was a way to savor the genius of living
in Japan, admire the fabulous geography and witness the historic landmarks and
masterpieces of art. I was able to
celebrate the culinary artistry and to truly experience the culture of the
land. I visited history and peered into
the future. I was able to “see, feel
and hear” Japan! Hearts overflowed with
love for all of the U.S. educators in Japan.
By meeting government officials, educational administrators, Fulbright
alumni, teachers, families, and students, I gained a rich understanding of the
Japanese society. There was so much
warmth, courtesy, hospitality and generosity of the Japanese people everywhere
I went. All of the U.S. participants
were so honored that so many Japanese people took so much of their precious
time to be with us. We became so
impressed with Japan’s government, language, culture, music, theatre,
religions, educational system and people.
