*** James and Eliza landed in America 17th
Jan 1850. I am assuming that they emigrated from the port of Liverpool. Eliza’s sister Betsey Ducket Haw married to
John Patchet, also from the Gosberton area of Lincolnshire, emigrated a few
months later:
“ They sailed for America with six children from
Liverpool, England. They left on April
14th 1850 and arrived in New York on May 19th 1850 after
35 rough days at sea. The youngest
child, aged six months, contracted pneumonia and died.. She was buried at
sea. They came up the Erie Canal to
Syracuse, where they were met by cousins of
Betsey by the name of Haw. John took a job as a tenant farmer in the Town
of Dewitt (Messina Springs), where they stayed for two years. Thereafter, they removed to Smoky Hollow and
finally bought the Kellogg Road Farm.” ***
Years later James and Eliza’s son James, married Sarah
Patchett daughter of John and Betsey.
They were first cousins.
Prior to that, Eliza and Betsey’s elder brother had
also emigrated and was settled in the Syracuse area of Onodaga Co., New York State.
He was:

The other later
generations of Haresign families to be
found within the New York State Region ****could possibly be assumed to
originate from any of these male children. (See above)
Of the known existing families no tangible link
has, as yet been established with the above.
Place names seem to fit and as the name
‘Haresign’ is quite distinct I am certain that links will eventually be
established..

** This information from Kimberley Branagan’s database
at Roots Web as to James’ birth conflicts with mother and father’s marriage
dates and puts his birth before the deaths of his two sisters called Mary, both
of whom had baptisms and burials recorded in the Gosberton Church Register.
