| What is CONFORMITY? (re-edited) Here is the life-long question that everyone wants to know: Am I "cool"? Is this "coolness" based upon what music you listen to? Why do people care what music you do or dont listen to? Its your business, not theirs. but then people CONTINUE to care about what music you are listening to. WHATS UP WITH THAT? People say listening to boy bands(*nsync, backstreet boys, etc...) and pop(britney and christina etc...) is "conforming" to society, but when you think about it, how many people do you know that ACTUALLY listens to that genre of music. Not many, if any at all. So then why is it STILL called "conformity" when in fact todays teenagers are "conforming" into listening to music like punk(blink 182, sum 41, etc.) now it seems that a large part of todays society is now conformists. Didnt think you were one were you? But you ARE! So, now it seems that us pop-lovers as myself are no longers the conformists in society. If you took the chance to listen to pop youd probly enjoy it. But No, you dont listen to it because you think its considered "uncool" or "gay" and you think if you admit to or actually listen to it you will ba made fun of. Who cares! If its something you truly enjoy, who really cares? Why is it that you are judging a cd by its cover, without even opening it and listening to it? Take it from my experience, something that you could think you could NEVER like could end up being your new fav. so just dont think you could never like something, just give it a chance. I know i dont always seem that way, i ridicule punk non-stop, but thats cus i think all people who still think pop is "conforming" should wake up and smell the blowtorch. What is MUSIC? Well...as i stated in my last issue, your choice of music should not affect who you are. And I have much to elaborate on that subject. Since I last wrote, my musical tastes have grown. But that does not mean what i used to enjoy has depreciated. No. That is a big misconseption which i must clear. Yes. I admit it, *Nsync used to be my favorite singing group/band/whatever. But now that they are not my "favorite" does not mean they have gone to a hate list or anything. No. My pop phase will be an important phase of my life which i will look back on in many years and see in a positive light. I mean really. In what time is there NOT a pop phenomena that many people jump on the bandwagon to enjoy? Think, in the 50s and 60s it was quartets and folk groups, in the 70s it was disco, in the 80s it was a combination of things like hair bands and then the growing of boy bands and female pop singers(like Tiffany.) Can you really look down on me(or the millions of others) who then bought into the 90's boy band phase? No. That would be defying what has been happening for decades and being irrationally mean. Now, I said that my musical tastes have changed. What does that mean? Well, after much consideration, I moved from just liking music because i like the band(the theory that if i like one song i must like all the others, etc.) to liking the individual. Yes, sometimes i can be amazed and like a WHOLE album, but thats rare. Very rare. The point is that now i feel like Im listening to the music more. I will hear a song and totally like it, and it doesnt even matter who its by. And thats the way music should be. Music shouldnt depend on the artist or a genre. Music should just be whatever is pleasing to your ears. Genres just limit that. ***written by emily, if you have a problem with my opinions just email me, you cant change my opinions but reading your attemps will be a good laugh.*** |
