Serge has highly advanced social skills, and flourishes during group activites, but has difficulty grasping basic literacy skills.
Serge is like many children with learning disabilities who have both areas of strength and areas for improvement. His academic frustrations center on his difficulty decoding text, and fine motor development delays that make handwritten assignments fraught with stress.

To help Serge reach his potential, Ms. Ellis needs to use his strengths in the social arena and provide him with tools that begin to address some of his special needs.
Technology can help!

"...technology serves two major purposes: to augment an individual's strengths, thereby counterbalancing the effects of the disability, and to provide an alternative mode of performing a task. Thus, the use of technology allows students to compensate for their disability or circumvent it entirely."  Quenneville, J., Preventing School Failure, Summer 2001, v.45, No. 4, pp 167-170
