| The flag represents our country. It's a symbol of Puerto Rican identity. The elements of the flag are: the blue triangle, white star and the five horizontal stripes. Each elements symbolizes: a. three red horizontal stripes - stands for the three branches of our government; Legislative, Executive and Judiciary. b. white stripes - represents individual liberty and the human rights. c. blue Triangle - represents the three branches. d.white star - represents the "Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico"("The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico"). |

| Puerto Rican Coat of Arms is the oldest of our national symbols. The shield is the oldest in America. The King Fernando of Spain and his daughter granted the Coat of Arms in 1511. The shield features many elements: green color, the lamb, the book, the latin motto: "Joannes Est Nomem Ejus", flags,crown,cross, castles,and the letters Y and F.The green backgrouns stands for our island. The lamb symbolizes the peace.The book represents the Bible. The lions and castles stands for the Kingdom of Lions and Castilla. The crown symbolizes the royalty of the kingdom. The letter F stands for King Fernando and Y for the Queen Ysabel. The latin motto reads "Joannes Est Nomen Ejus" in Spanish means "Juan es su nombre" ("John is his name"). |
