The Edwin Booth Theatre presents Emily Bronte’s classic story “Wuthering Heights” February 22nd though March 17th. This well-known gothic tale of love and revenge has been adapted for the stage by Charles Vance. The story is set in the moors of northern England during the late 18th century, and follows the lives of the headstrong Catherine, and the dark and brooding Heathcliff. They grow up playing on the moors, knowing few restraints, until their interest in each other becomes a raging passion. The young Catherine, wishing for higher social status, rebukes Heathcliff and marries Edgar Linton of Thrushcross Grange. In Heathcliff’ s tormented pain, he sets out to bring down all of those who have hurt or abused him, with the exception of Catherine, who even after death continues to haunt Heathcliff. It is this obsession with her that ultimately leads to his own death and the lovers’ eternal reunion.
Heading up a cast of well-known seacoast area actors is Jason D. Roberts as Heathcliff and Andrea Ardito as Catherine, Edgar Linton is played by Chris Curtis and Paula Place Cordeiro takes on double roles as Isabella Linton and Cathy Linton. Rounding out the cast is Brigit Ordway as Ellen Dean, Joe Dominquez as Lockwood, Ralph Murphy as Joseph, Harley Palmer as Hindley and newcomer Jacob Davis, as Hareton. Mary Ruth Lynn directs this production with scenic and costume design by Edward Langlois.
