The 170 "Special." This is the original engine with a block casting # of C3DE-6015-E. This block number is one of (if not the first) 170s to have hydraulic lifters (I pulled one out a while back to confirm). The valvetrain is still adjustable though, as seen in the picture below. Ford kept the adjustable rockers on the small sixes at least till '65 (the '65 falcon's 200 has them). Also, the picture below shows the autolite 1100 carb, new for Ford's I6's (all of them apparently) in 1963. In these pictures, the head is not the original, its the head off of the spare '61 170 that was given to me. Despite the age difference between the engines, the casting numbers on the heads were the same - C1UE-6090-A. |
