Born March 15th 1968 in Genoa (Italy), Sabrina Salerno became a beauty queen as early as age 15. At age 16, she competed in the 1984 Miss Italy pagent. She would later say that she always wanted to be a singer, but this seems to be a recurring motif of all middle-of-the-road female singers who are at least as easy on the eyes as the ears. Her curvy 38-24-36 figure went a long way towards appeasing any misgivings about her voice.

In the mid 1980s, she bounced onto TV screens across Europe as the singer of the pop hit Boys (Summertime Love). The song was a classic piece of 80s pop fluff, and as such would have been forgotten long before we bounded headlong into the 21st century. But it was accompanied by a video of epic proportions. Or should I say, a video featuring breasts of epic proportions. Sabrina ran and swam playfully around a hotel swimming pool in a small white bikini. Far too small for her ample mammary charms. There was many a slow motion scene of Sabrina pulling her strapless bikini top back up when it began to slip. And a few scenes feature a small, surreptitious nipple appearance. Enough to make it an instant hit, and an enduring memory for boys of all ages, but especially those (like us here at Euroeros) coming of age around this time.

You could think of it as a work of genius, far ahead of its time. Seriously - the rap video cliches were still a decade away, and Christina Aguilera's Dirrrty was over 15 years away. And here was Sabrina, wearing almost nothing, splashing around in a swimming pool! All you needed was a break in the middle of the video, with some fat rapper waxing about his "ho", and threatening to use his pimp hand to put the smack down on Sab' as she gyrated next to him. It would be in the Smithsonian.

The next single was, appropriately, titled Hot Girl, and once again Sabrina's breasts took centre stage. Wearing a lacy, stretchy black top with thin string straps, Sabrina hopped, skipped and gyrated her way through a series of dance step designed to put those flimsy straps to the test. As her mountainous clevage swung hypnotically back and forth, we all hoped that her beautiful mounds would be set free to roam the wilderness, or at the very least, our TV screens. This video also marked the appearance of a gold cross around Sabrina's neck, which hung down tantalisingly between her breasts. We all wished we were that cross. I still do.

Truly, this was the golden era of the big-breasted hottie. An era when the UK's tabloids churned out Page 3 girls like Linda Lusardi and Sam Fox, Patricia "Apollonia" Kotero wowed (male) audiences with her mountainous clevage in Purple Rain. There is something very dated now about this era, but there's no denying the quality of the eye candy.

For Sabrina, a few other videos followed, but the classic stuff was already done. After a lean period from 1989 to 1998, Sabrina made a comeback at the end of the 1990s with some more screen appearances, a new album, and the intriguingly titled single Rock-A-Willy, but I never even saw the video on TV. Perhaps with all the Britney Spears and Christina Aguileras around now, there's just no room for a curvaceous, raven-haired minx like her. A shame.

Last we heard, Sabrina had just given birth to a baby boy, christened Luca Maria, in 2004. She is also listed as appearing in two relatively recent films - in 2004 and 2006.
