1998 Nissan Frontier XE King Cab
Okay... I can't sleep, and couldn't think of anything else to put on my website,so I'm writing this page about my incredible Nissan truck. Is it fast?NO!Is it beautiful to look at?NO!Does it handle or brake exceptionally well?NO!Then, what makes it so great, you ask?Well...for one thing,it has 170,000 miles of pizza delivery on it and has yet to suffer any serious mechanical breakdowns! It's only been towed twice-once at 140,000 miles, when it broke the left front torsion bar(don't ask me how!),and another time when it was involved in a serious collision. That's it!I drive it HARD,over bad roads, and yet it still has it's original clutch(even after some brutal power-shifts!),water pump, altenator, starter (despite starting it 20-40 times a day for 4 years) ,noisy-but still functional-transmission,brake hydraulics, clutch hydraulics,well...you get the picture. The only bad things I have to say about it are that it has suffered some minor dents over the years, the Air bag system was shorted out when the battery shorted, and worst of all-the A/C quit working a year ago!Like all my cars(except the Javelin),it's painted refrigerator white to reflect heat(and blend in with traffic to help avoid tickets).
The only modifications are:2-10" Pioneer subwoofers and a 250 watt Jensen amp that some friends gave me,a JVC CD player, and tinted windows. It's the one vehicle I own that all of my friends like(or at least don't mind being seen in!).I love it for it's simple reliability, great fuel mileage(24mpg around town),and cargo capacity.Well...that's it for the truck.Feel free to look at some of my more interesting links on my
home page.
All I know about Frontier Engine swaps
Okay,so I'm not saying that I'm definitely going to do this, but I'm thinking about it.Japanese home-market Sylvias(same as 240SX here,200SX in Australia) came with an engine called a SR20DET.It's a bolt-in swap for the KA24DE that U.S. 240's,and trucks came with. This engine is a all-aluminum intercooled,turbocharged,4 cylinder that made between 200 and 250 hp from the factory.I'm thinking of buying a complete Sylvia front clip, and doing this engine swap if and when I finally kill the stock engine.I just need to figure out how to interface the electronic speedometer with the Sylvia harness. For more information on this engine,Click on this link:SR20DET.org

The closest thing yet to the
indestructible vehicle
It finally killed the original altenator,at 172,000 miles,in case you're interested
RB26DETT(Skyline engine) and VG engines
Unfortunately, the information I have obtained off the 'net seems to indicate that this swap is simply not possible. The engine is simply too long to fit (it IS an inline six).I do not know if a VG30DETT from a 300 ZX will fit,it may be too wide due to the DOHC heads, and twin turbo manifolds. However, a VG30E is a possible swap since the factory uses the VG33E  in Frontiers and Exterras. Another intriguing factory swap is the Eaton supercharged variant of the VG33E used in the Frontier and Exterra. One of the problems that this swap presents is that  there is not enough hood clearence for this engine with the early hoods,so a hood scoop would be necessary. One final thought on doing a swap involving a complete front clip: a reputable company should be willing to garuntee their parts-if they won't,look elsewhere there are plenty of companys who want your business. Also, make sure to get an uncut wiring harness, and all brackets hoses and components related to the drivetrain! You'll be shocked at how expensive it is to get any of these parts seperate(Nissan dealer parts are ridiculosly expensive!)
