1979 AMC SPIRIT UPDATES PAGE
History:
Well, I drove it for a while, and managed to have alot of technical problems- to put it mildly! The engine has very low oil pressure right now, and I installed a set of Hooker Super Comp headers, which in turn hit the 727 trans and overheated it. I have a lockup 904 I pulled form a Concord in the local junkyard for $70 with converter ( 6 cyl, high stall) and a Spirit 6 cyl driveshaft that I hope fixes the problem. Then again, I also need a 727 style trans x member to fix the interference problem I have there with the new headers too. If you choose these headers, be warned of these problems. I have the engine left over from my Javelin that will power the Spirit soon, as it is rebuilt and just needs an install. Also, I plan on a change from the troublesome electric pump to a Carter mechanical. The Holley Blue overheated alot and caused a fuel starvation problem at the track- quite embarassing! It also has a hard starting problem, and eats batteries. So, some more wiring is in order too....
