Notice: Effective
on or about October 20, 2009 this web page will move to a new
site. The new URL will be: www.everett1961.com
Welcome to your class of 1961 web page,
last
on October 10, 2009.
The reunion
committee has met and decided that the 50th reunion will be located
at a larger, banquet-centered facility, most likely one of the
hotel chains in Lansing. Our dinner will be catered, and we'll
have a block of rooms reserved for the out-of-towners coming back.
This being the 50th, we hope to have a large turnout to celebrate
a half-century path through life after graduation. More to follow
soon. Please plan on being there for this special occasion.
As you can see, we've changed
the URL to something that appropriately describes our content;
http://www.oocities.org/ehsclassof1961. Since the page is long,
we've included a link menu to get you to other sections fast,
and a back link to return to the main menu section. This will
save a lot of scrolling time. We are going to attempt to update
the "NEWS" section more frequently. If you have anything
thing to share with the class such as retirement, relocation,
new grandkids - please let us know. This page will be of more
interest if those of you who are reading this will share what's
been going on in your life. If you have retired, gotten the travel
bug, blessed with a new grandchild - let us know and we will share
it on this page.
If you have changed your e-mail
address, please let Jerry Blair know so that we may update the
list. Bug me if I do not do it in a timely manner, as sometimes
messages are lost depending on the mode of submission.
Since the inception of this
page, we have assembled quite a list of e-mail addresses of former
classmates. In most cases, you can left-click on their e-mail
address [found below] and directly open up your e-mail program
and be ready to go. We have also changed and upgraded the security
of our e-mail list, thus hopefully eliminating unwanted spam by
third parties. Check it out; perhaps this is a good time to send
a message out to a former classmate?
45th
Reunion Report
The 45th reunion saw about 70
people enjoy a gorgeous day at a city park that used to be the
old Sablin gravel pit. The place many of our parents said not
to go swimming at, but we did anyway. It has been totally renovated
into a superb outdoor facility for fishing, swimming, outdoor
grilling, and some sporting venues like volleyball, paddleboating,
to name a few.
Although the turnout was less
than we had hoped for, it did afford the opportunity for each
person to touch base with everyone else, which was great. We will
be posting some pictures in the near future that were taken on
Friday night and Saturday. And speaking for the reunion committee,
we enjoyed seeing you all and hope that if you missed this one,
you will consider coming for the 50th.
We also have individual pictures
of most of you that were taken on Saturday's picnic. These pictures
were taken by Valerie Fons with a digital camera in high resolution.
If you have high speed broadband, DSL, or a wireless cell phone
provider, I can send you the whole (70 MB) file via an e-mail
attachment, or your pictures only. In time, I will work on "crunching"
them down to a smaller file size to allow faster transfer.
How
to save pictures from this page to your computer
For those of you who want any
pictures on this page, you can easily save them in the following
(Windows users) manner. Right click on the picture you want to
save to your computer. Go down to "Save image as" option
and left-click. You will see a window with "save in"
at the top. You can click the arrow to browse to the area you
want to save the file such as the desktop, or a folder you have
on "C" drive or a folder that you create somewhere on
the "C" drive or another drive such as a USB flash memory
stick. The latter are becoming very imexpensive with a 512 MB
model going for about $10-12 at most stores such as Staples, Walmart
or Comp USA. The filename in blue at the bottom is the name in
our file - you can change it or leave it the same. Then just click
"Save" on the lower right pane and the file is on your
computer. Feel free to copy as many as you want. We have 109 pictures
of the event. If you want a CD with all the pictures on it, contact
Jerry Blair.
As promised, we are encouraging
input for the 50th reunion. Having five years to prepare gives
everyone the opportunity to put forth suggestions on the setting
and format for the big Five-O! So don't be shy - if you have any
thoughts - let's have them. Many of the ideas for the 45th were
voiced too late to make any changes. To view the complete larger
picture, you may need to click on the >> next to the Y in
Yahoo above right.

We have a section called "Archives."
This is some stuff, although not current, which may be of interest
to those who have recently come on-line or those who want to 'catch
up' on some old news, view current pictures of former Everett
teachers from the "Teacher Feature" section of the newsletter,
etc. You may access this section from the menu bar above or by
clicking Archives.
We'll continue to keep you up-to-date
on happenings with the Shades of Yesteryear newsletter.
Since the last newsletter we've heard from many of you and hope
to share that news in our next publication. A few 'thumbnails'
news items appear below in the the news area. If you have stuff
to share, PLEASE send us an E-mail or drop a note to Donna. We
would like to put up a few sentences about what you've been up
to these days.
Thanks to the people who already
receive this newsletter. If you're not currently signed up for
the newsletter and would like to be, please contact Donna Strayer
Williams. She would love to sign you up. Give her a call, or send
an E-mail by clicking on the blue link after her phone number
below.

E-mail Donna
- Barbara McCaige recently retired
and has moved to Florida.
- We are sorry to hear of the
passing of Warren Cheeney. Our thoughts go out to his family.
Warren gave a lot of time during the years helping out with the
committee's newsletters, banquets, and many other items to help
us function in a timely manner. He will be greatly missed.
- Norris McDowell has moved
to North Carolina and is closer to his son and has recently become
a first-time grandfather.
- Jerry Blair has two new grandsons.
- It is with sadness that we
report that Mike Ohler passed away July 18, 2006 after a brief
bout with cancer. He was an inspiration to the '61 EHS committee
and will be sorely missed.
- Deanna Hagerty Berry, who's
also sparred with cancer, reports she feels great. She has recently
retired from The State Journal. She's also participating
in a number of 5K road race events.
- Carol Luoto reported to us
that Sue Longest died on Dec. 12, 2005 in Florida.
- On a sad note, Sally Sepanek
was killed in a car accident in Lansing. Our thoughts go out
to her family.
- Russ McElmurry is alive and
well in Summerfield, North Caroilna. He has his own company,
"McElmurry Chemical," which specializes in food processing
sanitation.
- We understand that Jim Fishbeck
has recently retired. Now he'll have ample time to fly his Piper
Twin Comanche all over the USA, and best of all, do it just for
fun. Jim says, "I'm in good health, enjoying life, and hope
to keep my pilot's license until I'm 80!"
- Rocky Terrill, who recently
had a heart attack, is expected to make a full recovery. Hang
in there Rocky! Here's hoping that Rocky, as well as the rest
of our classmates, will make those lifestyle changes that will
ensure they will be with us for a long while.
- Karen Nowack died after along
battle with MS. Our sympathy goes out to her family.
- We have recently learned of
the passing of Janet Ledford. Jan was a nice sweet gal. Our thoughts
are with her family.
- Tom Nosal passed away in April
of 2006. He had been ill for some time. It's sad to hear this
news about former classmates.
- It is with regret that we
have learned of the passing of fellow classmate Don Kimball.
- It is with regret that we
announce the passing of classmate Jim Ostrander.

- Your committee is still trying to locate
missing classmates. At the bottom of this page, we have added
a new section listing those people who, for some reason, we just
cannot seem to find. Every now and then we get a new lead which
has solved the whereabouts of someone, and allows us to cross
out one more name. But we can't rest until the list is whittled
down. If you know about any of these people, please send me an
e-mail or call Donna. If you have your browser configured for
E-mail, feel free to do this anytime by clicking on the mailbox
link below.
-
- We've had a number of requests
for a current list of classmates. We would like to build a database
and offer it on-line to honor those requests. We are in the process
of creating a list of E-mail addresses. Our current e-mail directory,
which can be found below, has grown considerably. For women,
the list is alphbetized by your maiden name with the married
name within parentheses. We would like to add YOU to this
list, but we need your permission to do so. Thanks to the people
who have given us this permission. If you're not on the list,
please consider giving us your permission so we may publish this
on-line to enhance communication between 1961 grads. Who knows,
this may very well rekindle some long lost friendships. If you
have a home page, we would like to add your URL to the list.
If and when we get a small list going, we'll publish them on-line.

NOTE: It has come to our attention that
search features employed by some spamers are now harvesting e-mail
addresss from web pages for spam purposes. It seems they scan
web pages looking for instances of the "@" symbol,
thereby signifying an e-mail address, which they can then use
to send junk e-mail. Therefore, I have changed all the addresses
so that this symbol does not show anymore. All names are hot
linked so that your browser must be configured to shunt to Outlook
Express, Eudora, Mozilla, etc. If your browser is somewhat current,
this should work fine. All you need do is click on the name and
the correct e-mail address should appear in your e-mail program's
"To" field. If you want to know it for later use, just
put your mouse arrow over the name and look in the lower left-hand
corner of your computer screen. The address will be what is shown
after the symbols "Mailto:" in the area above the "Start"
menu (windows users). This was done to keep security at a maximum.

Below is a list of people we cannot
find. If you have any leads, please contact us with that information.
Sometimes just knowing a few incidental facts can lead us (or
you) to finding a classmate. We recently found Joan Austin &
Maxine Underwood in this manner. Do you know a friend, relative,
neighbor, or former boss of a classmate? Hey, look this list
over and think about it. Coleen Lee Fournier was recently found
(Evart) in this manner.
