A Day With A Friend
I remember a day that goes back a year,
When one of my best friends had still lived here.
We planned a day to go out and have fun,
And decided to spend it mostly in the sun.
My parents picked her up at her house down the street,
And for the first time she was early, because today was a treat.
We went to the beach and got into the water,
I brought my cousins - and she brought her sister's daughter.
We played for a while, with a scream and a shout,
But then we got tired and decided to get out.
We went to the movies and got something to eat,
And then we got ice cream that was cold and sweet.
We talked for a while, and then some more,
But then I noticed my cousins coming straight through the door.
As we got up slowly and started to go,
I noticed it was her sadness she feared to show.
Everyone knew the day would soon come to an end,
And I told her not to worry, and that we'd still be friends.
As I dropped her at her house, a tear ran down her eye,
We both knew she didn't want to go,
but that it still would mean good-bye.
The next day at the airport, I promised her
I'd remember the day we spent together,
And that the memory will live in my mind forever.
As she boarded the plane, a tear ran down my eye,
I walked away feeling sad and lonely, trying not to cry.
Up until this day, we still talk to each other,
And we laugh and joke about that day
we spent with one another.
