| It is without doubt that since the introduction of the internet in the 1990's the potentiality for showing "real" art has never been more urgent. Virtual space will replace physical space as and more people will have less time to travel physically and would rather "surf" the net to gain access to some great artwork to save any precious time in their busy lives. I would therefore like to introduce 8mm who's sole purpose is to foster a new breed of truley excellent art practice and proclaim, by exposing " the new masters of the new 21st Century". For far too long blue chip physical Galleries in New York has reguritated consumable art, who's sole purpose is NOT to foster great creative genuis to collectors, critics and the public but to SELL. Art as investment has gotten out of control since its instigation in the eightie's overheated art market. This is, not to say 8mm won't sale art in the traditional sense, but our main aim is to provide and expose great art work that is not represented in the current art system. The old archaic gallery system is fundamentally market driven and rejection is NOT the fault of the artist. We as artists want to cut out "the middle man", that is the dealers and go straight to the clients or art appreciators. This appreciation would best be served by the client/art appreciator buying the work, who's price would be set only in terms of excellence rather than investment. Dealers are only interested in flogging what they perceive as "fashionable"and "quirky". Many artists have to beg to be shown in these so called top galleries, mainly being ignored because the stable is full and the gallery can only show so many artists, that THEY think is suitable. Their wall space is limited, in not so much size but return or value the artist has to the dealer in response to the ever increasing rentals in New York. With 8mm this isn't a problem as we will show as many artists that we can in time value rather than real estate value. There will be no joining fee for artists or membership fee for potential buyers. There will be room for many not just a chosen few. We will not prejudice because you are not "good looking" for the fashion mags.We also want to destablize the myth that New York is centre of the art world. The internet knows no boundaries. It will destroy the secular stranglehold that New York has and expose more art to the world. 8mm will truley be international grabbing genuises from all round the globe. With the main motivation of excellence rather than HYPE. So I hereby challenge the established Chelsea hierachy to provide art that reflects our existence at this time and to produce art that is timeless, not a quick sell mentality. Having set this presidence the art practice that will be shown in 8mm will have to suceed in certain terms of excellence and be accountable for certain standards. It will be a place that also engages in "free", discussion and helpfull advice.
