Treaty Oak:
The Treaty Oak story left me speechless.  I was connected to the story right away.  Unity; love for nature prevailed in the case of Treaty Oak. To tell you the truth, when I finished the passage I wanted to go see the tree for myself.  Perhaps, I think I may tomorrow...but in the mean time my word would have to suffice you.  It's a real travesty for Austin to see this tree dying from a terrible misdoing of a human.
I was pulled in by the extreme emotional setting of the story.  It actually made me sick to think that someone would do that to a "living" thing.  What infuriated me was when the lawyer of the man who committed this crime had to say, "He could go to jail for life!...But a tree? Come on ! I mean, it's a tree!" (Harrigan, 51)  Wow!  I could not believe a supposed "educated man" would speak so stupidly of a oxygen producing being that give  you  and I the cleansed air we breathe!  Did the lawyer think of that?  Would it be okay for many other to poison trees?  The punishment should be harsh for destroying a living breathing entity.
The personification of the Treaty Oak is very persuasive.  Not only does the title suggest tha tis has a soul, as any human does, but that "she" was calling out for htis radio show caster to come and rejuvenate her.  "She" called for this radio spokeman to give her some of her strength so that "she" could overcome her illness.  It's hard for me to give my opinion on this matter.  I can very well say that I agree with hthis women when she says she has actually spoken to Treaty Oak.  Not to mention, she knows her name and what she was in a apst life.  I am stuck on that one really.  A part of me wants to believe in the 6th sense, persay.  I guess I get that want and longing for theknowledge of another dimension from the set of characteristics I was dubbed with for being born in the month of November.  This makes me a scorpio.  I should have a very strong psyche and be able to use my "powers" of foretelling futures etc...as did this radio spokesman.  Thinking of my own background, I want to say that Treaty Oak does speak to us.  She has dinitely made an impact on many people's lives.  From younger generations to older generations she has communicated with us with her strength and ability to live vibrantly and mysteriously.
I believe there is a soul in every living thing.  We are born, we live and then we die.  Our soul, I believe, moves on.  From body to body...it doesn't matter if it's a bumblebee to a human to an elephant.  The soul is a powerful tool to communicate with others.  I want to see if the Treaty Oak speaks to me, soul to soul.  I want to see if "she" is really weeping.  I want to be able to feel her emotions; to help her by listening to her needs.
