Green Squadron, Red is already deployed and waiting on the field. The LZ is hot. Base out.
The crew of 8 men charged their laser rifles. This was going to be a quick skirmish, from the looks of it.
"Tier, when we hit the LZ, I want you to come with me, we're going to take the offensive. We'll flank their base along with Crumb and Sikle- the rest will run to base camp and defend it. You got that?"
I nodded. It was favorite of ours. Sikle and I were excellent sharpshooters, so we'd normally take out the enemy base's defense mounts while Bahaus and Crumb would cover us if enemy forces got too close.
Our shuttle landed in the LZ just after Bahaus finished his instructions to the crew. As soon as we touched down, the 8 of us were out and moving. Neon red figures glowed as they moved about, trying to find us. We were well hidden, though. Bahaus and I ran through the black cliff-like terrain carefully, looking out for hidden guards. Red. We dropped to the ground. Bahaus motioned to fire. I aimed carefully, crosshair centered on the enemy's forhead. You could see his expression, almost read his lips as he was talking to one of his comerades. Then he dropped to the floor. His stunned companions rushed around, seeking cover, but it was too late. They didn't know where the shot came from, and light soon seared the area as I took two other soldiers out. I nodded to my SL that it was clear, and we moved on. Three of eight soldiers down. If they were leading a major offensive, then we wouldn't have to worry about any more encounters- but we would be cautious anyway.
"Tier to Sikle, we took three reds out, party status clear. What's yours, out?"
Sikle grunted that everything was fine, and that we would reach enemy base on time, and shortly.
Soon the base was in view. There were no guards to be seen, so we moved in for the kill. The reactor in the base would need to be destroyed, and then we'd go back to our own base to count our casualties. Just as we were getting the explosives primed, a line of red light blaseted through a wall and took out our squadron leader. Sikle and Crumb looked at me as we hit the floor. I was next in charge. We looked out through the hole left by the laser, only to see five of the enemy standing outside of the base. Apparently they were ambushing us.
"Green offensive to Base, we're surrounded, requesting immediate backup. All enemy forces at enemy base, out."
"Red to green, you're surrounded, and communications to your base has been severed. Give up now, or we'll take you by force."
I looked at my squad, and we decided to try to make our way out, and snipe them from behind, if we could make it. We'd blow the reactor as soon as we were clear of it, hoping that they would assume we went down with their base.
We were standing on top of a sleek, black cliff as the fire died. 5 red bodies were going through the rubble, trying to find any survivors. Sikle and I had our targets picked out already. As soon as crumb gave word for us to fire, we did. One searing green double flash, two enemies down. Crumb lobbed a light grenade at the remaining three soldiers.
We stood at the edge of the crater that once was the enemy base. It had effectively been turned into a cemetary. Our defensive squad came up to see what we had done. We shook hands, and everything disappeared.
"Man, that was cool!" I said to Dylan. "Yeah, man- we totally killed those guys," he agreed. "We should do that again, but this time, I want to play defense. I hate getting killed so early in the game," Ivan complained. "Well, it isn't my fault you stand right next to the windows of the base!" I said. "Hey, where's Brian?" I asked. "Oh, fat-ass is returning his vest and gun. He kinda got it snagged somehow. Don't ask." Dylan said.
"Laser-tag kicks ass..." Ivan said. We all nodded in agreement.
