Japan life page 3
12th, April, 2003 to June 2003
Around early to mid April it is a common tradition to get out and about and view the Sakura (cherry blossoms) This usually takes the form of Hanami (cherry blossom viewing parties) Here are some choice pics from our recent viewing party in Kyoto. Note: no Japanese died during the proceedings of this night! Also find pics from my school's dinner party, a trip to Tokyo and my fishing trip to Ine town, north Kyoto.
Some people in Gion, admiring the cherry blossoms The big cherry blossom tree in Maruyama park near the Yasaka shrine. Truely exquisite.
Walking through the fabled streets of Gion. This is my favourite part of Kyoto as the tea houses, cobbled streets and unique atmosphere make one feel like one is in old Japan. The view from the quaint little bridge in Gion - isn't it lovely?!
It is common to sit on the tarp and drink with your friends whilst sat admiring the cherry blossoms. Warning! Don't over do it or you will end up like this poor bugger! Laura Jane has found a friend to enjoy the drunkard-sprawled-on-the-tarp viewing with! Isn't drunkard-on-the-tarp viewing so much fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agh the poor inebriated rascal has just been joined by a friend. What a lovely site!!!
A picture I took during my recent trip to Tokyo. The newly opened Roppongi Hills.
Taken at the Kyoto Brighton hotel. This was the school's party for the leaving and newly arrived teachers. For me it was really a chance to say goodbye to Nakata sensei. Nakata sensei gets some flowers for San chan.
Not a grounded concorde - it's the bullet train Some young Japanese girls in traditional yukata in Tokyo For some reason I had to take a picture of this frugal umbrella
Looks easy but those bloody fish kept stealing my bait and escaping!!!
The captain: Fujikawa Sensei Isabel knows how to handle her meat!
Awwwh! ううん かわいい!!!! Putting those squiggley worms on the hook is DAMN HARD! This dog was almost as big as Isabel!
