Perspective: Motion of Objects
Benchmark: Describe the different
types of simple machines and how their use is applied to everyday life.
Generalization: Simple Machines
help us by making work easier.
Key Concept: Simple Machines
Congratulations! You've been hired
by a major engineering company. As a new hire, it is your job to design
a machine for the company. Before you can do this, you must refresh your
memory a bit on simple machines. By the end of this WebQuest, you will
take your Lego Dacta materials and given the problem you will create an
efficiently working machine to solve the problem.
Task
Working in groups of 2-3, you will visit the web sites to read and learn about Simple Machines.
Process
The following steps will lead you
on your journey through the resources to find the information .
1. Click here
and print the chart.
2. List the six simple machines
on the chart. (column 1)
3. Give three examples of where
you might find each machine. (column 2)
4. Tell how each machine effects
the force put into the machine. Does it change the speed, strength or direction
of the force? (column 3)
5. Given the problem card, create
a compound machine(2 or more simple machines put together)with Lego Dacta
to solve the problem..

Conclusion
If you have gotten this far, EXCELLENT! A big raise from the company is in order! (OK, so there will be no raise, but a pat on the back is good too!) You have showed your knowledge of simple machines and were able to apply the knowledge to solve a problem.
