Eager Beavers Softball 2002 (4-4-1)
Season Summary
After a slow start, the Eager Beavers started rolling. They won three in a row, thanks to some solid
defense, good pitching and sporadic hitting. They even managed to make some arch-rivals in the new
Minneapolis league with an extra inning tie with Moe's, may they burn in hell. Please forgive the
webmaster as he is a complete slacker and doing stats seems to take for ever. Great season everyone, it
was fun, we'll set up a team for next year, most definitely.
Last Weeks Summary
Eager Beavers vs. Moe's
Win - 16-12
Being the home team, Moes was up in the top of the 1st. Moes had only five batters come to the plate
but somehow managed 2 runs on us, actually not too shaby. In the bottom of the first our bats were
still asleep, we managed do send up for batters but go no runs (0-2)
The top of the second our defense decided to show up. We managed to give up zero runs, and only let
four of them come to the plate. In the bottom of the second we led off with a couple of back to back
doubles and notched 2 runs for ourselves. (2-2)
In the top of the third the pitiful team called Moe's managed to get another big goose egg. Coming
up to bat in the bottom of the third came controversy for the Eager Beavers, since we were batting two
girls in a row their team mascot didn't like that too much and had to mess with our order (making
tracking stats very difficult). Well in his face since we managed to get 5 runs in the inning due
in part to a homer by Gabe. (7-2)
In the fourth again, you can't mess with a team like the Beavers and Moe's goes down with a big goose
egg. The bottom of the fourth was pretty ugly for the Beavers too, with only a single by Kristin.
In the fifth, Moe's managed to score 1 measly run, again showing the Beaver's defensive dominance.
The bottom of the fifth the Beavers again had another ugly inning, but did manage to score 1 run
thanks to a lead off triple by Paul.(8-3)
In the sixth, Moe's thought about making a threat, but managed only 2 runs. The bottom featured a
hitting display by the Beavers, who managed to bat through the order plus some. The Beavers managed
8 runs in the inning, thanks to a home run by Mary and some nice base running by Michelle, Paul and Gabe.
(16-5).
Pause for a second of thought, since there is a 10 run rule after 6 Blue should have called the game, but
no she's not that bright.
Top of the seventh, thinking that the team should be done drinking cold ones at the bar, the defense
was a little sluggish. The Beavers gave up 7 runs to Moe's before getting the third out.
Final - Win - 16-12, Just because they're named after the Simpson's doesn't mean we have to be
nice to them, so we weren't. They are on the schedule one more time, so let's remember them and
their mascot and brew up a real rivalry.

Rules
The rules that I received supplement the A.S.A. (Amateur Softball Association) Official rules. I'm
going to summarize so as not to waste a lot of our time.
#1. All slow pitch games will be played with 3 ball (batter takes first base) 2 strike (batter must
hit fair on second strike).
#2. Teams may begin, play and finish with 9 players. Co-Ed must have either combination of 5 and 4.
Teams batting order shall start with whichever gender has 5. An out will be taken in the 10th
spot.
#3. A team cannot play with less than 9 players. If for any reason a team has been reduced to
8 players, a forfeit will be declared.
#4. If a player is ejected a team must have a substitute of the game will be declared a forfeit. In
the event of an injury to a player a substitute is not necessary.
#5. If an injury occurs to a base runner a courtesy runner maybe used. The courtesy runner must
be the last person to make an out.
#6. Casual Profanity: The umpire has the authority to assess ONE OUT against the offending
team. Only one casual profanity out may be assessed per play with a maximum of two per term at bat.
SO WATCH YOUR F$%(ING LANGUAGE.
#7. A run ahead rule will be used as follows: 20 runs after four innings or 10 runs after five
innings in all slow pitch games.
#8. Shoes with metal cleats are not allowed in slow pitch
#9. The home run rule will not be used in regular season play.
#10. Official softballs -
- Men's: Red stitch 12 inch ball ASA 9547 - A.S.A Logo
- Women's: Red stitch 11 inch ball ASA 9547 - A.S.A. Logo
- Women will hit the 11-inch ball, men will this the 12-inch ball
- Home team will supply one new 11-inch ball and one new 12-inch ball
Maps
I thought it might be nice to include a couple of maps so that you all may find Bossen without too
much difficulty.
Old Summarys and Box Scores
Week 1
May 2nd
T-ballers vs. Eager Beavers
Due to the fact that we hadn't played together and as captain I thought practice was for teams with less
natural talent than us, who needs practice.
Well we were a little rusty in the top of the 1st, giving up
6 runs (ouch). We came up in the bottom of the 1st and got a couple of 2 out hits from Traci and Jay,
but weren't able to capitalize. (6-0)
In the top of the 2nd we managed to get things together and give up
only one run, coming up in the bottom of the 2nd Paul hit a key one out double that advanced Michelle to
third, then Dave came up to the plate (his first at bat since last year) and hit a key 2 out single,
driving in Michelle and Paul. (Eager Beavers on the Board, 7-2)
It looked good at this point, then the
T-ballers went on a tear, scoring 4 in the top of the 3rd (Damn it). The bottom of the third looked good,
with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs, but we were unable to bring them home. (11-2, we're still in
this, the ump told me so at this point)
In the top of the 4th, the damn T-ballers scored another 3 runs. Coming up in the bottom of the
4th Damon managed to score on a 2-out double by Paul. Whew. (14-3, ten run rule doesn't apply until the
5th)
Top of the 5th realizing the Eager Beaver inside each of us, nashing our big buck teeth and slapping
our tails on the bench before taking the field, we gave up only 2 runs. In the bottom of the 5th the wind was starting
to become a factor, and considering we had a much better pitcher than the T-ballers, their pitcher
stopped throwing strikes for a while. Jay came up with a huge at bat and knocked in two runs with a
solid double. The rest of the stats are kind of sketchy, I think the book keeper got tired, but if it
was a hittable pitch we were hittin' em. We managed 7 runs in the bottom of the fifth. (14-10)
Final - Loss - 14-10, we'll get 'em next time, the game was called on account of time otherwise
we would have taken them, but it was cold and time for some cold ones. Laura is looking for volunteers
for the Spirit Committee, I was unaware of this committee at first, but Laura thinks it is fundamental
for any softball team. Volunteers? You will be required to use Pom-Poms.

Eager Beavers vs. Moe's
This weeks summary will be short and sweet. Although losing this week, it was an extremely close game.
The final score was 11-12 in favor of Moe's. Screw those guys, they weren't even D-League considering
they actually had a 60 year old manager and personalized jerseys. Forgive my bitterness. After giving up
9 runs in the first 1.1 innings, due to some shady pitching, the Eager Beavers managed to only give up
3 runs the rest of the game to go the entire 7 innings. The Eager Beavers pulled within two runs by the
top of the seventh, but came up one run shy.
Final - Loss - 12-11, Now that we've got a pitcher and not a belly itcher, we shouldn't start in
the hole every game. Next week if the defense starts off solid, the captain is assuring a win.

Final - Win - A win's a win.
Week 5
May 30th
Mavericks vs. Eager Beavers
After giving up 8 runs in the first due to a litte rustiness to the defense, the Eager Beavers managed
to knock in a few runs in the bottom of the first. Again looking a little rusty on defense the
Mavericks managed to score 5 in the top of the second, the Eager Beavers managed to knock in 7 more
runs in the bottom of the second thanks to a string of singles and big homer by Gabe. In the top of
the third the defense was feeling it and the Mavs were held to a big 0. The Eager Beavers thriving
off the defense, managed to score 1 more in the bottom of the third. Again the Eager Beavers held the
Mavs scoreless in the top of the fourth. The bottom of the fifth featured two homeruns, one by Paul and
another by Dave, the Beavers managed to score 5, taking the lead 15-13. In the top of the fifth, the
defense fell out of its groove and gave up 6 costly runs. Losing 19-15, the Eager Beavers could only
manage a couple of base hits in the bottom of the sixth.
Final - Loss - 19-15, I guess you could say we kind of choked, luckily we get to play these guys
again and will avenge this loss.

Week 6
June 6th
Eager Beavers vs. T-Ballers
In the top of the first we didn't manage to score any runs, but excitement was had by all as Terry (our
gracious substitute) managed to lose his pants on his way to first, and guess what he was thrown out.
Imagine if his pants had stayed on. In the bottom of the first the T-Ballers managed to score 3 runs on
a much improved defense. (0-3)
The top of the second the first two batters for the Eager Beavers managed to score off of a Dave's
triple, but Dave was thrown out at home trying to stretch his triple into a homer. The bottom of the
second again the defense gave minimal ground just giving away 2 runs. (2-5)
In the Third the Beavers could only manage a walk as their bats were struggling. The T-Ballers managed
just 2 more runs in the bottom. (2-7)
Turning a couner in the fourth the Beavers managed 3 runs thanks to a big double by Paul and a key
single by Julie. In the bottom of the inning the T-Ballers staying consistent managed 3 more runs.
(5-10)
With time running short with one the Beavers managed to only score 1 run. (6-10)
Final - Loss - 10-6, These guys had our number this week. Our bats just weren't there, but I
still would have to say we're the better team.
