Those Improving Guys

A Parody By Emile Jumean
(To the tune of "American Pie" by Don McLean)

A long, long time ago
A fledgling improv show was introduced to U.K. radio
And who knew from that humble start
The show would leave that big a mark
And its loyal fanbase, it would start to grow
But soon the fans cried out for more
So with the help of Channel Four
Whose Line had its pilot
On Brit TV, they tried it
With Josie, Jimmy, Jon and John
And Clive, he got it going on
The radio show was dead and gone
But Whose Line still lived on...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Hoping Whose Line, it will never die
Whose Line, it will never die
In Nineteen-hundred-eighty-eight
Brit TV was in an awful state
But Whose Line seemed to fill the void
Games like Props and Film Dub made their start
And Josie's songs warmed the Whosers' hearts
But John's hopeless overacting made them quite annoyed...
Stephen did his Raps in his special style
And Paul, he never cracked a smile
That first series, it was rocky
With ol' Sessions acting cocky
The players playing all those games galore
Never knowing just what was in store
We sure got more than we bargained for
'Cause Whose Line still lives on...
And now we're singing...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Hoping Whose Line, it will never die
Whose Line, it will never die
Now it's
Nineteen-hundred-eighty-nine
And Whose Line is still doing just fine
And that's the way that it should be
Greg and Ryan, they were both brand new
But they both knew what they had to do
And their Improv talents were very plain to see
Richard played us songs of every kind
And Tony thrilled us with his dirty mind
The gang, they were good to go
On the six-player Christmas show
Good ol' Clive helped Josie with her rap
And John still was a boring chap
But fun and games were still on tap
'Cause Whose Line still lived on...
So now we're singing...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Hoping Whose Line, it will never die
Whose Line, it will never die
Ninety-one, and they're still not
done
The Whose Line gang were still having fun
With the new guy, Colin Mochrie
But ol' Dan wanted to try something new
So they all went over, 'cross the ocean blue
To tape the show in the city of N.Y.C.
The Hoedown made its big debut
The Rap was dropped, and John was too
New games like Helping Hands
Oh, they were tried and given a chance
All of the Whosers, they squealed with glee
When Mike kissed Tony Slattery
It was as fun as fun could be
And still the show lived on...
And we'll keep singing...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Hoping Whose Line, it will never die
Whose Line, it will never die
The Whosers laughed as the years
rolled on
Some new games tried, and some old ones gone
But Whose Line still was number one
The guys still were nimble, still were quick
Their funny antics always did the trick
But you know, the best was still to come
Tony split his pants and swore at Clive
And Colin's dino came alive
Then one, cold, fateful morn
The Neon Love Chicken was born!
And guys like Brad, Wayne, Niall and Caroline
Were fresh-faced newbies, but they did just fine
And now hold a place in this ol' heart of mine
And Whose Line still lives on...
So let's keep singing...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Hoping Whose Line, it will never die
Whose Line, it will never die
I can't believe it's been ten
years
Through all the laughter and all the tears
But Whose Line looked like it was through
The final series in L.A.
The British players didn't stay
Now what were the Whosers gonna do
The answer came quite easily
A brand new Whose Line on ABC
Hosted by Drew Carey
(But where are Phil and Gary?)
And though the censors were a pain
The Whosers now could laugh again
The fun they had would still remain
'Cause Whose Line still lives on...
And so we're singing...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Hoping Whose Line, it will never die
Whose Line, it will never die
We'll keep singing...
My, my, all you improving guys
Take the audience suggestions, make up stuff on the fly
Make the Whosers smile, and make them laugh till they cry
Knowing Whose Line, it will never die
