The "Club"
The Dictionary describes the word "Club" as 'a group or association of people with common aims or interests'.

The East London Budgerigar Society was formed by people who share a love of budgies. Although some of our members have other types of birds, our main interest is in the Show Budgies and all that goes with the hobby.

Our Members get together on the first Saturday of each month, usually at the host member's home, to share news and views about feeding, breeding, showing and selling budgies. Of course there is also parent club politics to discuss, then comes the tea and cookies and comeradie. We also get together annually for a year end party, to congratulate every member on their year's achievments and to wish all a good festive season and all the best for the coming year.

Our club distributes a newsletter from time to time to its members which is packed full of articles concentrated on budgies. Articles are aimed mainly at the beginner breeders, but generally the articles are across the board.

All new members are heartily welcomed to our club, with a welcome gift. In this gift they recieve a good pair of breeding budgies and a "birdy bag", packed full of goodies related to our shared hobby.

Belonging to a club entitles us to rewards for achievment. A good specimen of bird deserves to be exhibited and if the bird surpasses the points of another exhibit, then merit is given where due. But of course, one can only show off their quality birds if they are a member of a club, which is affiliated to the Budgerigar Society of South Africa, and if their birds are rung with a close banded ring with their ring code on. These Rings are only available from the BSSA through a subsidiary club Like Us.
