"I shall tap my mana and destroy you!" - A sick obsession that lasted for all of two years of my life. Sometimes, it still comes back to haunt me for a weekend or two. However, its evil influence has diminished greatly. Who knows how many friends I lost because of this stupid game? Probably none, but boy oh boy, I got plenty of crap for playing it. Once I was identified as a "Magic player", I was immediately associated with all forms of the occult, Dungeons & Dragons (of which I have NEVER EVER played), and to a certain extent, Satanism. The person who introduced me to this game for the first time was actually Big Sam. Certainly, he is no Satan. Rather, he is one of the nicest guys I know. For more information on Big Sam, go see his profile in the Friends section. So......YEAH. Magic......whoohoo......what was I thinking? I mean, at parties and stuff, a group of guys would seriously just set themselves aside in a room upstairs and play this game. I was in that group.......GOOD LORD OH GOD WHAT WAS I DOING THERE WERE PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS GIRLS EVEN AND I WAS SITTING UP THERE WITH A BUNCH OF GUYS THROWING AROUND LITTLE CARDBOARD PIECES. Pant pant. But I now consider myself cured, for the most part. Speaking of hobbies, something that I've discovered about myself during my time in college is that I always have an obsession of some sort. Sometimes I juggle several obsessions simultaneously, with mixed results. While I'm writing this little "article", my current obsessions are building resin models, Escaflowne, DDR, and I-Ming Shiou. Why I-Ming Shiou? Cuz he's so DAMN sexy that's why. And if I-Ming decides to give me the brush-off, I think I'll go for his mom. Speaking o' which, Pete and I have written a song about it. Wouldn't you like to date Ming's mama? Wouldn't you like to date Ming's mama? I would. If I could. I should. If I would. Ming's mama.....those lips, those hips. Ming's mama.....that hair, so fair. Eeeeeyah. So what is it about this game that makes it so addictive to losers like me? Does is give me a power trip? Is it merely a hobby? Or maybe it's because I like the card art? The answer is....all of the above. Yes, the power trip. Yeah, sounds pathetic, but visualizing one's self annihilating his opponent with a 33-point disintegration spell does elevate one's sense of self-confidence. Well, not really. I'm just humoring you here by writing this. Don't believe a word I say. It's just a fun game. |
