The Tragic Tale of Blackstaff Errolor The Rat Who Was Just Too Curious![]() Once upon a time, there were two beautiful rats called Windy and Hector who loved each other very much. They decided that they'd like to have a family together and on a bright, cold winter's day they were blessed with a litter of five lovely, healthy babies. They had three pretty daughters and two handsome sons. One day when the babies were ten days old and still hadn't opened their eyes, a lady came to see Windy and her babies and fell in love with one of the little boys. She decided to name him Errol. He was turning into a very beautiful mink-coloured Berkshire rat, with a white tummy and a white line under his chin that looked like a little zip fastener. As Errol got older, he started to discover the world outside his home and went on an adventure. Windy decided that she wanted to make a new nest for her babies and took them all away to a new home. Windy told her babies that they must all stay together in the new nest because there were all sorts of dangers for little rats, but Errol wanted to explore his new surroundings and sneaked away to set off all by himself. He travelled far and wide and saw lots of new and exciting things but his family were very worried about him and went to look for him. After searching high and low they eventually found Errol far away from home and took him back to his brothers and sisters. Errol was happy to see them all again, but he'd seen the world outside his home and wanted more of its excitement. When Errol was two and a half weeks old, the lady came to see him again to tell him all about his new home. He would be going to live in a big, pink palace with lots of shelves and ladders to climb on and toys to play with. He would also have two lovely new friends called Max and Alfie. Errol was very excited and couldn't wait until he was six weeks old and was old enough to move to this wonderful new place. Windy and her family went to live with all her lady friends when Errol and his brothers and sisters were four weeks old. They had a wonderful time running round their new home together and having fun playing with all the big rats, but Errol yearned to see more of what the rest of the world had to offer. He would look out at all the exciting things he had seen on his travels and sigh. One day, one of the big rats whispered in Errol's ear that she knew of a way that he could get out and explore again. That evening, when no-one else was looking, she lead Errol to the top floor of their house. She pushed up the roof to show Errol how he could wriggle out. Errol was very excited as he knew that this was the moment that he could escape and seek his fortune in the big, wide world outside. His friend pushed up the roof again and Errol put his head and arms into the gap. His friend tried hard to hold up the roof but she wasn't strong enough. As Errol wriggled under the roof, his friend couldn't hold it up anymore and she let go. The roof snapped down and Errol was trapped! His friend tried desparately to pull him free but it was too late and poor little Errol was dead. All Errol's family and friends were terribly upset when they heard about his horrible accident, and everyone cried for Errol, the rat who was just too curious. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
