Ghost shrimp appear as clear or transparent white. The contents of their stomachs being visible through their body. They have ten pairs of legs, the front two pairs ending in small claws.

Ghost shrimp will eat any kind of fish food that reaches the bottom, making them excellent scavengers. They also will eat algae. They are peacefull, but some larger fish might try to eat the shrimp, or harass them. As long as the water is clean they will just about take care of themselves, and if you're lucky they might produce some eggs for you. Shrimp that are carrying eggs are easy to spot, the eggs are yellowish to green and carried beneath the females swimmerets (legs) until they are developed enough to fend for themselves.
