Marimo is the name given to a type of land locked algae formed by many small strings of algae tangled together in a radial pattern forming a green velvet-like ball. Though round Marimo are unique only to lake Akan, other similar algae can be found in several lakes in Japan and the world. Since algae is not wanted in our aquariums they are usually called Moss Balls in the fish stores.

I have no problems of my Ottos, SAE, or Hillstream loach bothering this algea.

I have gotten into keeping Discus. I have raised my water temperature to 83°F. I have not seen any ill effects yet form this temperature.
