The Petrified Forest!
There are many conflicting theories about the formation of the petrified forest. One of them is: There was once a forest of trees which was eventually smothered by a large sand dune. Water seeping down through the sand formed a crust of sandstone on the outside of the trunks. The trunks are not petified wood only sandstone. Over the years the formations have suffered considerably at the hands of collectors and are now protected by law.
