We search for Gold!

From us to the goldfields is a very long way. We usually travel 12000 to 14000 km in one season. Thats why we stay away for months, otherwise it would not be worthwhile to go so far.

As you will see in my photos, it is not an easy life. The roads are mostly just bushtracks and sometimes in very bad condition. Lots of times nobody is around for 100's of km. You don't stay on one place, you're always on the move. My biggest problem is water. I get at some places bad tummy aches from the borewater of the windmills. It doesn't effect Joe so much.

To go shopping can be a trip of 200 km, so we do this only once a forthnight or so. You have to love the bush and the loneliness for a life like this. For those who do, it is magic. There is so much wildlife around, especially the emus are fearless and come very close to you. You see lots of colourful birds and many kangaroos.

After a rain, the countryside turns into a carpet of wildflowers in all colours of the rainbow. All around you is peace, no car noises, the highways are miles away.

look around here.

1.We like to explore the caves on
top of the hill.
2.They are very big. Joe looks like
an little ant in front of them.
3.The ground was covered with these
little yellow straw flowers.
4.Strange sandstone formations.

Ghost town. Joe found our very first nugget. The largest of our nuggets
he found here.

It started raining, we were worried that we would not be able
to get out. Joe dug in the mud for 2 weeks. Than we left.
We had to cross a few creeks on the way out.

To the next place it was not much better. First the track was reasonable but it soon
worsened. Sometimes I do wonder how we made it. Maybe the "goldfever" kept us going.

After the rain, like magic, the country bursts out in bloom,
flowers everywhere as far as the eye can see.

Many lonely campsites; many bad bushtracks; but each with
its own little adventure story......So many memories.
I have a comfortable home, but sometimes I'm homesick for the bush.
