The Original Herd

This page is dedicated to my Pony Memories. It has pictures of each and every pony I owned as a child, and whatever memory I have of them.

How it all began. . .

My introduction to the world of My Little Pony was the Megan and Sundance set, which I was given by our beloved Portugueese cleaning lady/child minder, Marie Helena, at the age of 3 (roughly). I never did like Megan much, and her fate remains something of a mystery, but I loved Sundance, even though my mother said she was the most ridiculous thing she had ever laid eyes on. This initial hostility didnīt last, however, and Sundance and her kind soon grew on my mum, who soon taught me to treat my toys with respect. For this I am very grateful, as it has left me with 40 odd ponies with no hair cuts, pen marks, or other flaws(apart from usual play-wear). This is also the reason I still have Sundanceīs bridal and brush. NC Sundance is still one of my favorite ponies.

One of these two guys was next, I think.Thatīs right, I said guys. I had never heard of Big Brother ponies, so it seemed only natural that some of them were boys, and to this day, some of the "female" ponies remain male to me.

I have no real recollection of Starflower, except that, after I had first seen The Golden Horseshoes(my grandmother brought the video one Christmas), the poor thing, as the only adult unicorn I owned, had to lie in a makeshift bed, wearing the "golden horseshoes" ie the four yellow shoes that had come with some obscure pony clothing.

Probably my very first memory ever is of Sunspot. I can vividly picture sitting on a bus, with my mum(Lord knows why we werenīt in a car), and holding him on my lap. I also remember somehow pulling the reciept from the little plastic bag, and asking my mum what it was for.

Another one of the very early editions to the herd was Italian Posey. Like with Starflower, I have absolutely no recollection of how I got her, I just remember her as always being part of the herd. . . .

As I came into Pony Collecting rather late, I was never around to see the real flutter ponies, I always thought the Windy & Summer Wings were as close as you could get to buying them. As a result, Whirly(I think she came first), and High Flier(whom I called Dragon Fly), became queens of Flutter Valley, and had to help save Pony Land from the Smooze. I am rather proud to have kept them in the condition they are in. They are perfect, despite my games. Between them, their only fault is a single crease at the base of High Flierīs left wing. Not bad for a only a few years old, huh?

Yet another early edition was Love Letter. I used to have mixed feelings about her, because she couldnīt stand. Miraculously, though, when she was removed from the toy box and put on display again, I found she could stand on a flat surface. *Yay*. Unfortunately, the surface on which she is standing now is not flat, so she needs a flat comb to prop her up. Alas. Sheīs stilll gorgeous, though

Mommy Bright Bouquet is the last of my original ponies whose origin is a total mystery., and yet, even though I had no idea who she was, she always seemed a motherly figure to me, and, as a result, always took care of the babies.

To me, these three ponies were always together. I recieved Melody as a Christmas gift from my Grandma(Nonni, as I called her, and still do). I distinctly remember how I got Clover. It was just after I had first seen the MLP Tales on video. I remember being at a classmates birthday party when she recieved her, and wanting her desperately. It must have been towards the summer, because not long after we(my mother and I) were on a plane coming back from Denmark. My mother took out this package and gave it to me for some reason, probably for being good while we were visiting relatives, though I canīt really remember. I was so happy. Melody and Tuneful were always a couple, because they were both musical.

The following six ponies were Christmas or birthday presents, if I recall correctly, with the exception of Lil Pocket, who was an early hand-picked edition to the herd.

The only pony I ever bought in a store after moving to Belgium was Ringlets. I kept her ringlets beautifully for a very long time, but, just before all my ponies were packed up, a friend of mine helped me braid their hair so it wouldnīt get frizzy! This worked a treat for most of them, but poor Ringlets lost her beautiful curls. *sniffle*

In my games, I had two official couples; Mommy Sunbright(though I didnīt know her name) & Holiday Pony, and Peppermint Crunch & Curly Locks. The first two were together for obvious reasons; they were both `sunnyī, but the second two were together only because they were bought at the same place: A minute fleamarket at my schools annual "Fancy Fair". Those two were last ponies I ever recived during my childhood collecting. They had stopped making them by then, and I was only 8.*Sob*

Below are all the babies I owned as a child. Baby Firefly I donī remeber how I got, but it was possibly at the same flea market as Peppermint Crunch and Curly Locks. As for the Ballerina Babies, I vividly remeber chasing `round Christiansens(toy store) with my mother, desperately looking for the Blue One. That particular store had stopped getting them, but eventually we did manage to find one, behind a row of something else. *Phew*
