Tetbury town records preserved at Gloucester Record Office

I am finding myself confused as I try to mesh these stories with the family notes.
In particular, people I had not heard of are suddenly residents of Tetbury

Records of the Quaker meetings held at Tetbury are filed under Nailsworth. In the volume is notes of the meeting held at TETBURY, 14th day 12th month 1744, Representatives: Tetbury - Jacob WILKINS and Richard LOCKEY, Nailsworth James FORDS and Henry WILKINS Painswick and Cirencester John PITT

D566 R 1/3 contains a copy of John Wight's Will, dated 22 Jan 1778. One clause names his sister Ann Butler, and her daughter Margaretta Butler.

Land owned by Town, leased by Feoffes to residents

D566 T 2/1 contained 10 documents
1. dated 30 Aug 1653 - Between Feoffes John Driver, Thomas Alexander, John Alexander, William Savage, John Savage, Obadiah Arrowsmith, Samuel Webb, John Arundrill, and Ezekial King of Tetbury husbandman, Katherine his wife and Francis King son, lease east end of Gumstool Street.
2. dated 20 Oct 1690 - between Feoffes John Savage, William and Francis Savage, John Elton Gent of Tetbury, Sam Teakle, Obadiah Arrowsmith, Antipas Swinerton, John Ritchins Woolcomber, the house in Gumstool Street with the house of Edward Teakle on the south side, for John Richards, Sarah his wife and Sarah his daughter.
3. dated 20 May 1709
Please check the ORIGINAL DOCUMENT - my notes seem to create a peculiar story.
it appears to be a Deed assignment of lease involving John Harding, Robert Styles of Tetbury, feltmaker, died, tenant of Gumstool Street, Robert Wyles and Robert Wilkins of Tetbury, feltmaker and is Fixed with seal of Robert Wilkins.
4. dated 24 Dec 1701. Widow of John King, Francis King to continue lease.
5. dated 8 Nov 1720. Isaac Punter, Tallow Chandler in Gumstool Street, Samuel Punter and Mary Punter, his brother and sister, to continue lease.
6. dated 16 June 1770. Philip Leacey leased a house in Gumstool Street, other lives are Thomas Leacey his son, and William Wear the younger aged 4 years, son of William Wear the Elder, labourer, for a rent of 4/- paid on the 4 Feast Days each year.
7. dated 16 June 1770 names Philip Leacey, Thomas his son, then James Lewis son of William aged about 13, and George son of William Sealy aged about 13
8. dated 25 Aug 1780 between Jeremiah Fry, 3 lives or 99 years lease between Ffeoffes William Fisher Cheesefactor and Thomas Pike the Elder, Woolstapler, and Jeremiah Fry the Elder, carrier of Tetbury, cottage in Gumstool Street, to Elizabeth Fry aged 26 years, Charles Fry 24 years and Jeremiah Fry the younger 20, sons and daughter of Jeremiah Fry.
9. dated 20 Feb 1785, Jeremiah Fry's place is granted to William Fry aged 29, Sarah his wife aged about 30, and Jeremiah Fry aged 26.
10. dated 1 Jan 1796, Assignment of a lease from Elizabeth and Sarah Baily to George Whitehead.

1.
dated 14 Dec 1691 Robert Wyles in Gumstool Street, son is Robert Wyles of WoottonUnderEdge the Younger, feltmaker, for a rent of 20/-. Giles Stedman was a Feoffe in 1691.
2. dated 8 Dec 1720, Isaac Punter in Gumstool St (second copy)
3.on 25 Mar 1733 The Town Lease dated 14 Dec 1691 was surrendered and a new lease made with Robert Wilkins of premises in possession of Robert Wilkins, Thomas Constable and George Whitehead for a yearly rent of 20/-

1.
Robert Clark purchased the Miles-Stephens lease for 31-10-0 on 9 Nov 1765. Thomas Miles took out a lease on 2 Jan 1741. James Stephens received the lease belonging to Thomas Miles reference D566 T 2/3 dated 19 Nov 1754. On 9 Nov 1765 James sold it to Robert Clark for 31-10-0.
2. on 22 Feb 1682 Stephen Jones purchased two houses in Chippen Lane, Tetbury from James Thomas of Bristol (or who then moved to Bristol?)
They are the house where Margaret Godwin, widow doth now dwell, and the house where Samuel Holliday dwells.
3. on 11 May 1696 Thomas Sharp of Tetbury, Worstedcomber, and Mary his wife, and Thomas Junior, Edward, John, Mary Ann and Elizabeth their sons and daughters, leased the cottage in Chippen Lane together with land extending 54 feet.
4. on 11 Sept 1731 James Lamb of Fairford in Glos begins land owning in Tetbury with a lease for 99 years at an annual rent of 3-0-0
5. on 27 Jul 1734 lease held by Katherine Butler widow, late occupant of house then in occupancy of William Snow. Nicholas Morse died 11 Apr 1733 and left no will, so trustees took over his house. Witnesses Martha Greening, William Jones, William Purnell and Mary Hill
6. on 15 Jul 1738 Samuel Punter obtained a lease from the Feoffes
7. on 2 Jan 1741 lease of house in Chipping Lane taken by Thomas Wiles of Tetbury, gardener.
8. on 18 Dec 1746 John Hone obtained a lease from the Feoffes
9. on 9 Oct 1754 mortgage to Rev John Lewis and Esther Lewis of Holt, by Isaac Punter and F Sloper
10. on 26 Dec 1760 William Fisher and Mary his wife the daughter of John Sloper, lease a house in Chipping Lane
11. on 20 Nov 1765 lease granted for 3 lives, to Robert Clarke woolstapler and Esther his wife executrix of Rev John Lewis, late of Holt in the parish of Bradford, Wiltshire, her father, and Mary daughter of Robert Clark by Eleanor his first wife, deceased.

D566 T 2/9 contained 4 documents
1. On 11 Aug 1698 lease of waste land beside the White Hart was granted to John Witchell
2. On 11 Sept 1731 lease passed from the Trustees to James Lamb Esq of some of the waste ground on which part of the White Hart Stable stands. This document appeared too delicate for me to open.
3. On 15 Jul 1732 Mary Stephens, widow, relict and executrix of Thomas Stephens, continued tenency of the house in Gumstool Street.
4. On 25 Sep 1754 lease of Waste land on which part of the Stable of the White Hart are built, the hovel and wall and stable late in possession of John Hone, and now in possession of John Ledgingham adjoining the east end of the house formerly in possession of John Witchell and known by the name of Salutation, or Boar, and now converted into a Stable.

D566 T 2/10 contained 3 documents
1. On 25 Dec 1701 Hyett released land to Nathaniel Body and also to Thomas Skelton the garden going westerly to Hopeful Vokin's garden.
2. On 26 Mar 1705 Benjamin Hyett, Elizabeth his wife the daughter of Joseph Morwent, and Charles Hyett their son, gave to Thomas Skelton the lease of the White Lion and garden in the possession of Hannah Skelton
3. Copy of the Will of Ann Butler proved 13 May 1783 in London who was owner of the White Lion Inn, granting it to Margareta White formerly Butler, wife of Samuel White.

Horse Racing, and some Problems

D 566 Z15 Horse races
1. 2 Aug 1716 - Horses to be entered by Joseph Webb of the White Hart in Tetbury.

2. 9 Jul 1720 is a book with no local horses listed.
Horse or Mare or gelding can run.
1. is kept at John Overbury's stable, and entered in the name of Creeper
2. Robert Cotton of Cheshire sent his sorrel stone mare, it did not run.
3. Philip Herbert, who has no constant settlement but oftimes lived with John Cotton, entered a horse.

3. 25 Sept 1722 - Every horse to be entered by Nathaniel Thomas of the Star in Tetbury, and kept in the Town for 7 days before they run
Each horse is to pay half a guinea (10/6) entrance money.

D 566 Z19 Seven documents
1. dated 10 Oct 1640 is a copy of the Town Deed, signed by Richard Box, Toby Chapman clotheir, and John Elton.
2. dated 24 Sep 1730 authorised a public collection to be made towards cost of repairing the church of St Mary, collected 840 pounds.
3. dated 4 May 1745 is an extract from Samuel Saunder's answer to a question on the history of the aisle of the church.
4. dated 31 Jan 1788 is a printed Bill heading, and the page from John Savage contains the list of food eaten during some trip,
cost 2-7-10 (appears to be the room), Fish and sauce 3/6, Neck of Mutton 4/6, rolls and butter 1/-, couple of fowl 4/-, puding 1/-, bread and beer 3/1, cheese 4d, tea 3/9, supper 4/6, wine 9/-, Toddy 2/3, breakfast 3/-, Paper, pens and ink 1/-, hire 1/6, seat 1/9, horse 3/8, ? 8d, horseler 2/-, chamberman 2/6, wine 1/6, booth 6d, Total 2-17-6
5. dated 1 Sep 1789 is a poem from John Clover and John Wheatilone from the cells in Newgate.
6. dated 13 Sep 1879 is a page from 'the Architect', does not mention Tetbury
7. dated 10 Mar 1885 is a cutting from 'Gloucestershire Notes and Queries' Population of Tetbury in 1737, comment on the Census which gave a total of 2216 inhabitants.

D 566 Z20 Six documents
1. A Court Order to the Inhabitants of Tetbury to pay Gilbert Gastrell, John Small and John Hopkins, executors of the last will of John Wicks, late of Tetbury, 17-1-0, being lately paid by said John Wicks to the Sheriff on appeal to get the road fixed.
2. 15 Nov 1715 signed by nine - John Trotman, Edward Wallington, Thomas Lockyer, John Nehnes, John Wickes, Mathew Wilkins, John Sloper, John Wickes 2nd, Joseph Shillam do support His Majesty and ask support against rebels. there has been a traitorous and detestable conspiracy carried on by Papists and other wicked men invading and causing insurection to subvert our religious laws and liberties. (The spelling is from the document).
3 and 4 - Notice on Wednesday 30 Sept will be run on Tetbury Warren a Town Plate of 10-0-0. For any horse, mare carrying 10 stone weight bridle and saddle included.
Subscription of a guinea each. Twice round the course. Best of three races. Winning horse to be sold, if the owner wishes.
5 and 6 are two lists of townsmen beginning with Miles Gastrell Vicar (1734 - 8). The codes are not explained, pages are not dated.
