DAAS!

What can i say about this talented trio that i haven't said time and time again, only to have my words eaten by geocities? I really don't know.

Anyway, before i become too critical and have my page torn down by potentially offended hosts, I ought to mention that The Doug Anthony Allstars were a clever comedy/carabet group, who had their beginnings in the sheltered haven that is Australia's capital Canberra.

Having said that Paul McDermott, Tim Fergusson, and Richard Fidler came together to form DAAS, while all living in Canberra, it shouldn't really surprise you that The Dougs were an extremely violent comedy group. Couple the violence with the amazing guitar skills of Rich, The voice of Paul, and well the antics of Tim, and you have a group uncomparable (is that a word?) in their style.

Unfortunately, for their own reasons, DAAS split up in the mid nineties, each going on to separate careers. However they do live on in the hearts, minds and VCRs of their dedicated fans. I must make special mention to one group of fans, the MOSHers, a brilliant online alliance of DAAS fans.

Rich!

Rich was always the "stupid one" of DAAS. He has since proved that he is far from stupid. Taking a break from show biz for a while, Rich produces the award winning CD ROM "Real Wild Child". This is an anthology of Australian pop music. Or at least that's what it says on the packet. I haven't actually seen the CD ROM in action, but i'd like to, sometime.

And now Richard is the host of the ABC's "Race Around The World". This program gives eight young people the chance to travel the world making short documentaries. The documentaries are then judged by a panel of ... judges (funnily enough!)

Tim!

Tim was the one who initiated the breakup of DAAS, and fair enough too in my estimation. After touring with the same group of people for eight years, i'd be ready to go home too! He actually chose to return to Australia to be with his family.

After the breakup, Tim did a stint with the "Working Dog" comedy company in "Funky Squad", a show about a "groovy" (god why did i just use that word? Ugh.) group of undercover cops.

Tim then went on to host "Don't Forget Your Toothbrush" - quite a dodgy TV game-show-sort-of-thing (as you can see, i never got the point of it) - but he wore some really wild suits during the time.

Tim has also released a book called "Left, Right and Centre", a fiction based on his campaign for election.

Now?? Well... um, he is (probably was, by now, seeing how little commercial TV i watch) in a Hyundai commercial.

Paul!

After the Dougs split up, Paul wrote and performed in the musical MOSH, which i don't claim to know anything about. So people out there reading this: Email me and tell me about what MOSH was, so that i can tell others!

During 1997, Paul worked on the JJJ Breakfast Show with Mikey Robins. Throughout 1998, Paul kept up his association with JJJ, coming in on
Friday mornings to the Brekky Show. Sadly, Mikey's last day with JJJ was Friday December 4:(

Paul is currently the host of the comedy/current affairs show " Good News Week " on the ABC. If you haven't seen this show, you don't know what you're missing! Paul also hosted a spin off program, "Good News Weekend", which ran for a ten week period during 1998.

Paul has recently released a single with Fiona Horne. Entitled "Shut up/Kiss me" the CD features the song "Shut up/Kiss me" (surprisingly enough!) and also another of Paul's songs, "Happiness" as well as a dance remix of the title track.

Good News Week!

Good News Week is a satirical look at current affairs hosted by Paul McDermott, Julie McCrossin, and Mikey Robins. It used to be on the ABC, but in a coup over the summer, channel 10 snatched the popular show away. grumble grumble.

While Good News Week was still with the ABC, a spinoff program, Good News Weekend, ran for 10 weeks on Saturday nights. Due to its success, Channel Ten have created a similar program that shows on Thursday nights, called GNW Nitelite. Paul, and the others, sing at the end of each show, a treat not to be missed. Flacco and Sandman also make a few appearances each show.
