Saddle Back
Bicolor
Blanket Back
Probably the most readily recognized pattern is the Saddle
back pattern.  The dark color on the dog creates a 'saddle' on
its back.  This pattern is not restricted just to two-tone dogs,
but can be found on sables as well.
On a blanket back shepherd, the dark color on the back
stretches down and covers part of the legs.
A bicolor shepherd looks as if it has Doberman markings.
The body is predominantly dark with light markings on
the legs and sometimes light 'eyebrows.'  They also have
black stripes on the toes and 'tar heels,' black on the
backs of their hind legs.

Solid
Solid German shepherds are one color over their entire bodies.
This can be black, white, or even red!
