¡Bienvenidos y Felices Pascuas!

A Winter Holiday Page!

Welcome to El Tejanito, the World Wide Web site for Dennis G. Medina. Here you will find selected information on Chicano History, Gay & Lesbian History and Texas History, as well as personal information about me, and other miscellaneous stuff. In other words, you may find anything of professional or personal interest to me. I have created this site in order to please no one but myself, but I am happy to share with everyone. I hope at least something here pleases you; and, if not. . . ¡Que vaya a la chingada!   [Please, don't take offense at this term; I am using it in the "metaphorical" sense, just like Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes].

As with most Web projects, this page is under constant development and will change from time to time. I hope to make even more changes during el año Y2K ¿Y tú qué? So browse through it and, every once in awhile, check back to see what's new. ¡Orale!

¡Que Pasa!

Work and Life

El Jacalito

El Jacalito is a little house where Tejanitos often lived. My Master's thesis is about these little houses. To find the citation, search in the University of Texas Library Online Catalog UTCAT under "jacalito" (title search) or "Medina, Dennis" (author search). Or, read an abstract here of the thesis to find out more about el jacalito. Note: In Spanish, the "j" sounds like an "h".

Residencia

El Tejanito now has moved from Austin; and is now living in San Antonio—a very romantic city and, without argument, the cultural capitol of Tejaztlandia.  Wish me luck in my new jacal and with my new jale (next section).  I will try to keep up with the Web page from afar.

Jale (Work)

Life is not easy for a lowly graduate student; and I got tired of being poor and exploited. I have a real job now; and I feel much better. But, oh, am I ever going to finish that dissertation? Oh, well... that's not your problem.
It has been three years since the previous statement was written; and I still haven't finished the dissertation. ¡Hijo! ya tengo otro jale!  Visit me at the new jale at the University of Texas-San Antonio Library.

I am grateful to my previous jale for the opportunity to learn and make nuevos amigos.  Here a link to my previous job, el jale anterior.

Travel

Yo quiero que te vayas por el mundo
y quiero que conozcas mucha gente
Yo quiero que te besen otros labios,
para que me compares hoy como siempre

I want that you should go throughout the world
I want that you should meet many people
I want that you should kiss other lips,
So that you may compare me, now and always

All Tejanitos have a Madrecita. It was long la Madrecita's desire to visit Machu Picchu. So, in July 1998, we went to Peru. Here are some of my thoughts on the visit (and one photo).

This was one place El Tejanito never expected to go; but he did in 1999.  It was wonderful.  See photos inside.
