There is a place that some would rather forget..... Its name is Bachelors Grove. |
Updates: 12/19/03 Hello everyone. it has been a VERY long time since I have gone to Bachelors Grove, and thus, there have been absolutely no changes to the site. Today I made a minor change and updated the links at the bottom of this page. Some of them have been shut down. So basicaly, this means no real changes on the site. I do think of going back sometime soon though to take more opictures and to see what has changed. In the meantime, check out my old pics, and my second pics page, and the stories I have up, and visit the links I have at the bottom of this page! If you would like to contribute something to my site, I.E. Pics or stories, please contact me at elvatocls@yahoo.com Also be sure to sign my guest book , lemme know what you think of my site. Does it suck, blow and munch, or is it the best site you have ever seen? Lemme know what you think. Laters all. J.P. Abu al-Hol |

There is a place in Midlothian Illinois called Bachelors Grove. It is now only known as a secluded cemetary in a pocket of a forest preserve. But before that, it used to be the name of an old county full of settlers. Hence the name, Bachelors Grove. It was settled by a large number of bachelors and the name stuck. You can find out more about the history at Bachelorsgrove.com, the link is at the bottom of the page. The first time I went was in the summer of 2000. My friend Jon Overton had taken me and another one of my friends,Tim Cronin. I went, scared out of my wits, having seen the Mancow special of when he went into Bachelors Grove. He made it seem like it was teeming with demons, satanists and bodyparts. As usual, TV screwed up the facts. First of all, Mancow went into Rubio woods which is across the street from Bachelors Grove cemetary. Secondly, what I found in Bachelors Grove Cemetary was a poorly kept, desecrated graveyard where the curious come to pay their respects or just come to gawk and take pics, hoping to get some sort of ghost on film. I saw tombstones strewn about and knocked over. I saw graffitti on stones and on that first trip, I took several pictures so as to remember how it was. Since then, I have returned many more times, each time, discovering new things and leaving more awe-struck everytime. But it was the trip of Columbus Day 2001 that left me in tears. That day I found Bachelors Grove in a state of ruin like I had never seen before. You can see for yourselves in the pics page. The state of Illinois is trying to forget this site. They are trying to erase what little mention of its name as possible. The more you look, the more you see the name "Bachelors Grove" replaced or erased from maps and roads and landmarks. On the way to Bachelors Grove, you may come across a road. Justamere Road. It was formerly known as Bachelors grove road. After a while, troopers started to say to people..."oh, that road has nothing to do with bachelors grove Cemetary. It's just a mere road." And hence, the name. Justamere Road. We must fight to keep Bachelors Grove Cemetary in good shape and what's more, in our history books. |
