Welcome to the page about the webmistress of this Island of Creativity herself - Nadya Neklioudova.

First of all, I have to say that this Edgar A. Poe-esque page design was not created by me, it was borrowed from the ever-so-wonderful Moyra's Web Jewels. I know, I wanted to make every page on this site framed with my own graphics eventually, and I will... if/when my level of artistic skill with the computer ever reaches anywhere near Moyra's. She has created the perfect graphics for this page, and I want to use them. ^_^

Some of these questions actually HAVE been asked often - and some I made up, just to share my thoughts. Rambling and ranting alert - you have been warned. :) I'm not making anyone read this, you know. This is basically me talking - a LOT. ^.^; But if you REALLY want to know more about me, read on!

Q: How did you get that funky name of yours? Where are you from?

A: I'm from Russia. I was born there, hence I got a purely Russian name. But guess what country I live in now, and you'll get a cookie. Hehe :P

Q: How do you pronounce your name / last name?

A: I get asked this VERY often. ^_^;;; Um, just give it your best shot is all I can say. Just call me "Nadya". But whatever you do, please don't call me "Nadja", "Nad" or misspell my name in any way. It's one of my pet-peeves. When I say my full name in real life is one thing, I understand it sounds very strange, but when it is clearly typed on a computer screen, there's no way you can go wrong unless you just don't pay attention.

Q: Ok, then why "Angel Mercury" for your webpage? Isn't that pretty pretentious?

A: Heh. I'm not an angel by ANY stretch of the imagination, though I did get called that once. Well it all started with my first website, which had featured only my SailorMoon-related drawings and fanfics. My favorite character was Mercury then, and since all names like Sailor/Lady/Princess/Goddess Mercury were taken, I opted for Angel Mercury. Not because I wanted to sound pretentious, I just liked the name, and later when I had started stuffing my page with all kinds of other stuff, I wanted to change it to something else, but the name had stuck. So I changed the site name (from "Temple of Anime" to "Island of Creativity") but the nickname remained.

Q: What anime/manga series do you like?

A: Hoo boy, you can't ask me that and expect me to shut up after 2 or 3 titles. ^o^ I like "Fushigi Yuugi", "Rurouni Kenshin", "Weiss Kreuz", "Earthian", "Magic Knights Rayearth", "Ayashi no Ceres", "Kanata-Kara", "Sailormoon S" (yes only S, I just like the other seasons, but I love SMS), "Twin Signal", "Card Captor Sakura", "Arislan", anything and everything by CLAMP, and…um…a few more I can't think of right now ^^;

Q: All right, what anime/manga series do you not like?

A: Heheh. You really wanna know? :P Just kiddin'. Well I don't like the "Pokemon" dub - note I said DUB, I dislike dubs in general. Same reason I don't like English SailorMoon. "Pokemon" is cute but a kids' show, and I can't stand shows that let animals, real or not, fight with each other. Especially kids' shows. I hate fighting in general.

Q: Why do you like anime?

A: NO, it's NOT because of all the cute animated bishounen guys in it, as a lot of people seem to think. >_< I love a lot of anime for deep and complex storylines, realistic characters, and out-of-this-world artwork. A REALLY good anime (or "Star Trek" series) can keep me glued to the screen for hours, like a good book - something that hasn't been achieved by many TV shows. Bishounen are just a bonus, hehe.

Q: What are your favourite books?

A: Wheeee! I love to read. This is one of those questions that you'll get a bunch of answers to. Here we go!

Books in English: "Interview with the Vampire" by Anne Rice; "Lord of the Rings" by J.R.R.Tolkien, "Imzadi" by Peter David (a "StarTrek: The Next Generation" novel), "Anne of Green Gables" by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Books in Russian (note, I don't know if they're in English too, I just mean I read them in Russian): "(It's) Hard to Be a God" and "Space Mowgli" by A. and B. Strugatsky, "Scarlet Sails" by A.S. Green, "Ring of Darkness" by Nick Perumov.

Q: What are your favourite movies?

A: "Titanic" (yes, the James Cameron film, and NO, not because of Leo DiCaprio), "Interview with the Vampire", "The Mummy" (the new version, the one with Brendan Fraser in it), "Zorro" (the new one, with Antonio Banderas)

Q: What are your favorite singers / music groups?

A: You asked for it! ^o^

Japanese: I live on the music of MALICE MIZER, Gackt, LAREINE, GLAY, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Fiction, Lucifer Luscious Violenoue, Utada Hikaru, Yuko Sasaki, Weiss, E.M.U., THTC, TM Revolution, and a lot of others.

English: Enya, Sarah Brightman, Loreena McKennitt, Celine Dion, Madonna (sometimes), umm….can't think of any more right now ^^;

Russian: NONE! None of the popular, modern, "cool" stuff, that is. So what if it's in my mother language, doesn't mean I have to LIKE all these people copycatting American songs, styles, and having NOTHING to say in songs besides repeating, repeating, repeating the chorus! Ugh.

Q: Why are you so bent on Japanese music? What's wrong with English?

A: One of the main reasons I dislike modern Russian music (note I said modern, I love the old songs) is, as I said above, its lack of imagination and constant repetition. Same reason I don't like most popular English music, and some Japanese music too. Any song that is built and founded upon only a repeating chorus of "oh baybee I looove you" will lose my interest. However, any music that I can tell is real, non-clicheed, and truthful in feeling, artistry and self-expression, I will like, no matter WHAT language it's in. I do like English music, but only the things that are truly original and expressive. (and besides, I don't like following the "popular music" trends anyway, stuff that is blasting out of every window at full volume, EVERYWHERE, will make me sick of it - like I'm sick of Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears) It just seems as if I only like Japanese music - but it's because Japanese music sounds great, it has a lot of poetic, meaningful lyrics and even if it repeats sometimes, it doesn't get on my nerves as much. It really sounds as if these musicians worked hard on their music, to make it meaningful and touch people's hearts (to quote Gackt), and I admire that in ANY musician or singer, no matter what country.

Q: Ok I'll keep reading. This page is getting really long. BTW, can I email you and comment on your artwork/fanfics/whatever?

A: Yes of course! Who doesn't love praise? :D But please don't make it some kind of one-liner, where you just say "I like your pic". I've gotten a lot of those. @_@ I appreciate the praise but WHAT pic? On WHAT website (I have a lot ^^;) WHY do you like it? I'd like to know that so I can improve. I'm still just learning to be good at the things I do. And besides, the guestbook is for short things like that. I like constructive criticism, that helps me a LOT.

Q: You suck. I'm gonna flame you.

A: Well I delete any flame-mails I receive. If you can't criticize in a civilized manner, without swearing and being rude, then don't say anything at all. By the way, that's not even a QUESTION!

Q: Do you take art/story/whatever requests?

A: I'm sorry, but no. I used to take requests but I realized I have no time for them. (I'm SO sorry if I didn't complete your past request yet, feel free to contact me again if you still want it, I'll try my best but I don't guarantee anything) I don't have very much time for my own art right now either, there are SO many things I want to get done but I can't do them all at once. Besides, you'll have to offer me a little something for the request ^^; Artwork doesn't come free, unless it's a gift drawing...

Q: Ok then, do you do/accept gift art/stories/whatever?

A: That I do… as long as it's tasteful. I also make gift art for others.

Q: Why do you draw anime-style?

A: Because I believe it is very expressive. It uses bold colours, styles that vary to the point of dizziness, and can be breathtakingly beautiful. Just look at those huge eyes most anime characters possess. Eyes are the windows to the soul, they say - and anime eyes are often incredibly expressive and gorgeous. Anime/manga characters have eyes you could just get lost in. Not to mention the rest of the style is quite beautiful also. Forget expressionist abstract art, all those black squares 'n stuff - anime-style is the way to go! IMHO :)

Q: Why do you write/draw so much gothic stuff lately? Vampires and all...freaky.

A: Um, because I am one? Not a vampire, I mean a goth. Well, half-goth, anyway. I guess you could tell from the atmosphere of this page's design already. I enjoy dressing in black, listening to Malice Mizer, Fiction and other visual goth music, I love to read vampire stories for hours on end in the candlelit darkness of my room... There is just something mystical and alluring - and dare I say seductive - about the darker side of things. I love tragic stories, and I find the mythical undead creatures, such as vampires, fascinating. My favourite holiday is Halloween. However weird this sounds to the "normal" person, I often daydream about getting bitten by a vampire. I revel in the romance of darkness. Hence I write about it, and draw it. Well I mean, I draw things associated with it - vampires, members of favourite gothic bands - because it would be pretty d@mn hard to draw darkness itself, right? :)

Q: Ok, you're officially weird. Can I leave now?

A: *Nadya brandishes leash & collar* NO!! ...LOL just kidding, just kidding! You can leave this FAQ page, but please feel free to look around the rest of the site, ne? ^.^

Feel free to email me.
