Civil Emergency !
Flooding round the town
Access to the Heads (river mouth) was blocked by a temporary  dike of shingle and sandbags
Behind the dike was a thick layer of silt where the river had risen at high tide.  The fishing shop was flooded through
Churchill Street was awash and kids enjoyed kayaking at the bottom of the road
Sullivan's Lake on the left flowed over King Street to Eleanor Place looking more like Eleanor Lake. Some basements were under threat here.
Ironically, this was taken last week when Tom
(in the rain) was digging a pipe to take roof water into the newly lined pond. The excessive surface flood-water  inundated half the lawn but stopped just short of the house
To see how things were 2 days later ....
Awatapu - some strange town plannning which allowed housing on an artificial island in the old oxbow of large river.
