Heather Lake
"A hike with a mild upgrade well suited for children..." my brother read to me out of his hiking book.

Never trust hiking books.

I'm sure its an easy hike for those who are even moderately in shape, I wish I was; however, it was definately worth the sweat. When going to Heather Lake, make sure you have the most fit person in your group carry a picnic lunch to enjoy when you finally get to the beautiful lake at the top. Just remember to take your trash back down with you so Tommy doesn't have to jump in the lake to collect garbage.

If you decide, like me, that the lake looks really inviting and you just have to take a dip just remember this:
yes, that is snow on the mountain so the water is COLD. Parts of your body will feel like they're going to fall off. Trust me.

I think the best part of the hike back down was watching my nephew Aksel who was in a carrier strapped to my brother's back. George has always been a quick walker and has. . . lumbered along. In short, graceful he's not. (I'm sure he'll agree with me when he reads this). As a result, poor Aksel had a rather -bumpy- ride back down. Its safe o say that he got jostled around a bit. The poor kid fell asleep on the way down, but he still had his little hands in a death grip around the carrier. I wish I got a picture of it.
