| -Leading Role Mezzo (G to high F) The Baker's Wife is confident, intelligent, and determined to have a child. The Witch's curse has made her husband's family tree a barren one. When the Baker sets out to undo the spell, the Baker's Wife secretly comes along...against her husbands orders. She argues with him while in the woods, and eventually teaches his that it takes two. She becomes pregnant by the end of Act I, and in Act II...becomes a mother. She and her family go into the wood again due to the Giantess. There, while searching the forest, she is seduced by a Prince...and in a rush to get back to her husband (where she belongs) she is crushed by falling trees. The Baker's Wife appears once more at the end of the show to give her husband insight on caring for a child. "Oh, my husband's somewhere in the woods...He's undoing a spell" |
