-Cameo Role Soprano (B to high F#) Jack's Mother complains of how her and her son desperatley need money and that Jack is always dreaming. Their house is falling apart and Jack's father has left. She forces Jack to sell his beloved Milky-White for no less than five pounds. She is very upset when her son returns home with beans which he excanged for the cow. She throws them away, and eventually they sprout into a giant beanstalk. Soon Jack adventures up the stalk, steeling gold and prized possesions of the rich Giant. Jack's Mothe does not complain. By Act II, the mother and son are wealthy. But, when news of another Giant comes...she refuses to let him go. While in the forest, she confront and argues with the Giant (who plans on killing Jack). The Steward, fearing for the lives of everyone, gives her a mighty blow to her head...she is then mortally wounded. The Baker promises to make sure no harm comes to Jack, the Jack;s Mother dies. "Children can be very queer with their animals. You be careful with your children..." |
