Our Feature Presentation:
Back in 1995, the idea of a movie was underway for "Into the Woods". Vanessa Williams, who would transform from hag to beauty in the 2002 revival of Sondheim/Lapine's work, was offered the role of the Witch. Unfortunely, the film never surfaced...but! I was lucky enough to find a revision of the screenplay at www.ebay.com...
If you have specific questions about the un-filmed movie, please e-mail me at tyguyactorman@yahoo.com and I would be more than happy to help you.
Plot Points of the Movie:
-
The Prologue is out. Instead, the opening scenes focus primarily on the Baker and his Wife. We are introduced to Jack and Cinderella's stories as the Baker makes a round of deliveries.
- Cinderella's Father, referred to as Friedrich,  arrives home drunk as Lucinda and Florinda prepare for the ball. He is dragged into the house through the "doggy door" by the Step-family's pets, Bruno and Seigfried.
- Little Red Ridinghood visits the Baker's Wife while the Baker is away. She is late to her Granny's House because she was spying on some of the older boys skinny-dipping.
- When the Baker returns home without much luck in selling his bread, his wife secretly pours a powder into his food. Bought from Milo the Traveling Executioner, the power has some strange effects on the Baker. It is supposed to make a man "...more capable of fathering a child."
- While in their empty nursery;  the door slams shut, the room begins to shake, the rocking horse turns into a dragon, the window shatters and the Witch appears. There is a flashback of her memory of the garden. When she is angered, snakes and assorted vermin creep and crawl out of her sleeves and clothes.
- If the Baker and his wife accept the Witch's task and fail to bring her the items by the following midnight, the Baker will die and his wife will become old and ugly.
- After running into the Baker at her Mother's Tree, Cinderella "communicates her thoughts to the grave". The tree begins to rustle and the branches envelope her. When she is revealed, she wears her beautiful gown and golden slippers.
- There is a scene inside Rapunzel's Tower. We see the coldness of the relationship between her and the Witch.
- The Baker's Wife witnesses Cinderella waltzing with the Prince on the castle balcony.
- "Agony" is sung while the Princes ride on horseback.
- There is a scene in which Rapunzel's Prince rescued his damsal.
- In an attempt to get the golden slipper, the Baker's Wife is drawn to the Royal Castle. When Cinderella explans to her Prince that the woman is insane, he orders her killed. But, as Cinderella does not want her first act as a princess to be the cause of someone's death, they let her go.
- Due to the fact that the Witch has touched Rapunzel's hair, the Baker begins to die and his wife's nose starts to twist. Lukily, "all is repaired" and when she transforms, bluebirds and bunnies fly and hop from her clothing.
