Rapunzel... |
-Supporting Role Soprano (C to high A#) Rapunzel is locked in a doorless tower, where she sings a wordless song and combs her hair. She is the Baker's long lost sister, and has been kept hidden by the Witch in the forest. The Witch took her from her parents as a child, because of her father steeling beans from the Witch's garden. Yet, the Witch (who acts as Rapunzel's mother)...is very upset to find that a Prince has been visiting her daughter. The Witch implores her to stay with her, but Rapunzel explains she is no longer a child and wishes to see the world. Because of this, the Witch cuts off Rapunzel's long yellow hair and sends her of to a desert where she has two children. One day Rapunzel's Prince stumbles on...and two of her tears give him back his eyesight the Witch had taken away. During the second act, she goes mad...and hystarically runs about the stage screaming. Because of this, she runs right under the foot of the Giantess...and is killed. "Hah! Oh, nothing. You just locked me in a tower without company for fourteen years, then blinded my Prince and banished me to a desert where I had little to eat, and again no company, and then bore twins! Because of the way you treated me, I'll never...never be happy!" |
