Frequently Asked Questions | ||||||||||||||||
1. What factors should we consider when choosing to own a puppy? * Choosing our puppy is an important decision. As potential owners we need to think about our life style. Where do we live? How much room do we have? Would be perfect dog be small or medium sized, easily carried and cuddled? Or would the perfect dog be a larger breed that would protect and provide a solid pal to throw your arms around? Responsible dog owners do research, ask questions, review themselves, and choose carefully when they decide to buy their pet. 2. What Expenses will come with my new pet? * Food * Regular trips to the vet, vaccinations, etc. * Food bowls, beds, crate, ID tags, toys, collars, leach, treats, etc. 3. What type of food should I give my dog? * We feed our puppies Diamond puppy food. If you can't find Diamond puppy food, other good choices are: Nutro puppy or Science Diet puppy. Note: Any time you change brands, do so gradually by adding small amounts of the new food to her current food until the new brand has replaced her former food. Example: 1/4 new to 3/4 old; 1/2 new to 1/2 old; 3/4 new to 1/4 old; 100% new brand. This should take over a weeks time period. 4. How do I house train my new puppy? * We recommend using the crate to help house training. They usually don't want to mess in their bed. Always take them out immediately after naps, first thing in the morning, and always the last thing before bedtime. Always talk and explain why you are taking them out and praise them when they do good. When purchasing a new puppy you will receive many helpful hints on how to help house train the new puppy. 5. Should I have my new dog neutered? * If the new puppy is going to be a pet then I would wuggest that the neutering be done. There are positive health issues that are linked to neutering pets, for one, the risk of cancer in the male and female organs is reduced greatly. Overall the neutered dog makes for a more family friendly pet. For more information on this subject one should check with their local veterinarian. 6. Will my new dog get along well with my other pets? * That will depend upon the idividuals. As a rule, I find, if the new puppy is introduced slowly and time is taken to make sure the older dog knows the new puppy is here to stay, they will get along and many times become good friends. 7. When should I start vaccinating my new puppy and what vaccines? * When you receive your new puppy, if purchased from Pritchard Puppies, you will receive a vaccination record. Take this to your vet. and he will continue with the needed vaccinations. 8. What about worms in my puppy? * When you purchase your puppy from Pritchard Puppies your puppy will have been de-wormed and trated against the infection of parasites routinely since it was old enough to start treatment. 9.
