"I have learned from the animal world, and what everyone will learn who studies it is, a renewed sense of kinship with the earth and all of its inhabitants."
Walt Disney |
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
- The predecessor to Critter Country, "Bear Country" was actually the second "Bear Country" in the park. The original version was in an area along the route of the attraction, Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland. The second "Bear Country" was a new land created to accomodate the Country Bear Jamboree, which was replicated in Disneyland after becoming a huge hit in Florida. The two "Bear Country's" co-existed with each other for five years: from 1972 until 1977 (when the Mine Train closed). In 1989, Bear Country became Critter Country for the opening of Splash Mountain. - Most people do not realize that "Indians" existed in various parts of Frontierland for many years. They debuted along with the park in 1955 with tribal dance performances and arts & crafts demonstrations Throughout the years, they were moved many times around the frontier (just like real Native Americans) until their final settlement in the area that is currently "Critter Country." Then, in 1971, labor disputes, declining public interest in "Cowboy and Indians," and the impending arrival of "Bear Country" ended their occupation of Disneyland. (Ibid)
